Temple Screen Trick

Postby richard_kingstone » Jan 18th, '10, 21:37

Hi,

I'm trying to track down a trick called 'Temple Screen'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWCVYVB-AA8

I can find it in the good ol' USA but not in the UK.

Anyone know of any who UK suppliers who stock it or even if it appears in print?

Ta

Hi Richard. I had a look but couldnt find it for sale here. However, i have needed a few items from abroad in the past and have found the folks at Magicbox to be most helpful.
Try contacting Magicbox, ask for Michael Murray, and explain what youre looking for. Im sure he'll do his best to get it for you :) jim

In the December, 2009, issue of the Linking Ring Parade sectionare plans for making a Temple Screen.
BTW, they are still sold in most magic shops; look under the name Grant's Temple Screen (for U.F. Grant).

cheers,

When dealing with an old effect you go to the old brick & mortar magic dealers... like ABBOTTS, the primary makers of that very prop for many a long year. You might also check with Klam Magic in that they took over many of the UF Grant systems about 20 years ago.

It's in rice.
I have one at home somewhere, that i mean to redecorate at some point. It had something spilt on it, and the thing has a blood red stain on the front.

Is this another book? I'm probably being a bit dense.

Rice encyclopedia of silk magic. Its a 4 volume work, on the field of silk magic. However, the items contained can be used in many other forms of magic.

It is to stage magic, what Bobo is to coins, 13 steps to mentalism, and royal road is to cards. :)

you can get it on cdrom...

But i prefer the printed volums if you can get them. They always inspire me.

I'm trying to remember exactly who it belonged to, I want to say it was Bamberg, but Kirkham had a wonderful variation to the Temple Screen in which the center panels that created the screen itself upon folding, were suspended and essentially swung back & forth from the top of the outer wood frame. This allowed you to show the screen (apparently) all the way around and in a manner that was impossibly open. Yet, when you fold it up you had access to tons of stuff in that the method permitted a much larger load made up of the sort of items a traditional Temple Screen wouldn't accommodate.

I always loved that piece and wanted to replicate it but it required some special hinges that literally had to be made by hand, custom to the prop.

It is available through many dealers. http://www.emagictricks.co.uk stock it and the cost is around £25.00
