Osmosis Bottle Illusion

Postby Stephen Ward » Mar 31st, '05, 14:52

The Effect

You display a bottle of beer (can be empty or full). You then slap the bottle and show that the labels are now inside the bottle. It comes with two more suggestions. But to name them may tip the trick so i will say no more!

Cost

I think it is around £35.00. Some dealers have this in the UK and i know many USA dealers stock it. I got given mine as a 'swap' so i don't know where it came from.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

3 OR 4 (some people may really struggle with it)

Review

This is just IMHO, but Oh dear! this is awful (some people will disagree). I think the method is easy to work out.

Main Problems:

(1). if it breaks it will be so hard to make another so you will need to buy a replacement.

(2). I think the method is quite easy to work out.

(3). Not for people with small hands.

I know that some people have used and love it. It is just down to personal taste.

I think you really need to find a video demo of this being used and judge for yourself. Best if you can go to a magic shop and ask to see it being used.

Overall

3/10 Well made but not to everyone's taste.

I agree with you totally :x .

I saw this, and immediately thought, they're charging me $60 for this c*** (not the best)?! I saw the method after the first time, and from then on this effect was just 'nope' for me.

1/10, and I don't even own it!

I've seen a few of these hanging on shelves in magic shops and they don't seem to sell many of these. That usually makes the warning bells ring for me.

Whilst the Osmosis video makes the trick look quite good, I've thought that each time I see this actual bottle, the quality of the product isn't that good and in my opinion it doesn't look realistic. More warning bells ringing by now.

It may be that the ones that I've seen are cheap immitations but I wasn't impressed. If the quality of the bottle was up to scratch, the magician was up to scratch, and everyone had swallowed at least a couple of bottles worth or lager then you may have a winning combination.

I've never been convinced!

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Good point. The only two times i have used it at a booking was at the end of the night when my clients were quite drunk. As far as i know, there are no copies at the moment, so you should have seen real ones. It should come with a yellow instruction booklet (wrapped round the bottle) and in bubble wrap.

Even the most inexperienced members on this forum are probably saying "i know how this is done"

If anyone else has used it, what did you think?

Didn't paul zennon use this on one of his shows? I think he was in Sweden? He got some decent reaction, though he was in a pub.

Probably!

Zennon appears to have the ability to get away with things that most other magicians wouldn't even dream of trying. He has a natural performing ability that just makes people trust him and they're then surprised when he reels them in.

I just love watching him - what technique.
