Magic in Vegas!

Postby Ant » Jan 25th, '10, 07:39

Just got back last night but had the opportunity to see Lance Burton, Luke Jermay and Criss Angel's new show.

Lance Burton - Very slick presentation of a classic magic show, much preferred this to the David Copperfield show I saw last year.

Luke Jermay - This was pretty good but was a bit short, also most of the act relied on some question cards we filled in pre-show, which took a lot of the mystery away for me, still well presented though. It also had an interlude from a magician called Ben Sideman who had a pretty good routine but seemed a strange break in a mentalism show.

Criss Angel - Unfortunately it looks like the Believe team have bowed to pressure and changed what was a great piece of magic/surrealist theatre in to a more focused magic show. The new effects "Enigma " and "Kaella to Life" were both excellent and is definitely worth seeing but I preferred the old format personally. Wouldn't stop me going to see it again though.

Somehow ran out of time before getting to see Penn and Teller even though I decide to go see them every time I am there! Ah well next time. Wife also suggested Gerry McCambridge as she saw him when she escorted her mum to see Manilow and said he was good so he's on the list for next time too.

Also if anyone is in Vegas I found a great little shop called Denny & Lee's Magic Studio off of Dean Martin Drive. After an attack of CUPS I bought Royal Road, Bobo Coin Magic, Annemann's Forces and Maven's Prism for very reasonable prices. If you have a case of CUPS I recommend here over the Houdini chains which seem more catered for tourists. The guy I spoke to called Scott was very useful and did not try (too hard) to sell me lots of stuff I did not need or want. (Hope this doesn't breach advertising rules etc. just found it useful when I was there).
