Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Postby beetlejuiceecis » Dec 13th, '09, 18:36

Hey folks, wondering if anyone here knows anything about rare/collectible music items?

My friend has recently discovered that his dad owns a rare copy of the classic prog album Dark Side of the Moon on which the colours coming out of the prism are reversed (see here for a pic: http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=478417). We've been trying to work out how much it is worth, however we can't seem to find anything online so far. Just wondering if anyone has an idea where we could try?

Cheers!

if its an original, in mint condition (both sleeves, covers and vinyl itself) - then it'll be worth a few quid...your best bet is to pop in Smiths, and look for a magazine/book called The Record Collector - it'll give you the prices in there...and also the serial/issue numbers to check against too...

Hmm, does this mean my misprinted Nirvana Unplugged CD might be worth something?

I was going to recommend getting hold of a copy of Record Collector but Iain beat me to it. However, be carefull and make sure you get a few quotes.

A few years back I had a very rare record collection which I decided to sell. Most of the dealers were only offering a couple of hundred pounds and made it sound as if they were doing me a big favour in offering to take it. Excuses such as we might not be able to sell it and we have to spend lots on advertising were common excuses.

In the end I placed a small ad and sold to a collector for £3K which was a lot of money 20 years ago.

I think that you will get the best price taking out a small ad in Record Collector once you've established it's worth.

Being a bedroom DJ with the occasional trip to bars and pubs, I spent most of my student loan on vinyl...

One of which included Mint Royale's Singing In The Rain which I used my 10% HMV discount to purchase for £2.99 minus discount.

Those of you in the know will be aware George Sampson did a breakdancing routine to this track for Britain's Got Talent and won. Within a week of this I listed it on eBay and got a satisfying £47!!

I think Discogs is like The Record book but is online and free and gives an indication of price.

In any case I think my hobby in magic has replaced the act of buying vinyl, and has probably worked out marginally cheaper!

An ad in record collectors a good idea. People serious about collecting records/music buy it so you should get a good price.
