OK, so like many I started watching Lost with high hopes and became disillusioned with it all around the middle of Season 3 (where it really did look like they were starting to make it all up as they went!).

However, over the last year I've managed to watch all the remaining series as I've travelled all over (trusty laptop with me!) and after the last season's finale, I'm quite excited that it's coming to an end.

I just wondered what the consensus was among people here on the show - I'm in no way expecting answers to everything that they've thrown up over the last six years but if the answer 70%+ of the mysteries then the writers will have done a good job!

However, I'm seriously considering NOT watching it as it airs.. rather wait until I've got all the episodes awaiting me. Problem then is... how do I avoid the spoilers!


*edit* Just re-read my post... when the heck did the word 'season' start to proliferate into my English? For pity's sake.... we don't have seasons on television in this country, we have series (as in..."that was the last in the current series....") Aaaaaarghh, Americans!!

Used to watch it fanatically. Now bored. Didn't watch last season - probably won't watch this one. As often happens with this sort of US show it just goes on too long (e.g. X-files).

Yeah, Im with TheStoner on that one. When it got to series 3 and hadn't revealed anything, I lost interest (pun intended). It gets frustrating not getting any answers after four years of it being on.

All American TV programmes run for too long, Lost could of been a great programme but they milked it.

Whens it back on then? I missed it 1st time round!

You know, I wish I had a witty retort to this, but you've got me there lol.

LOST is my favorite show of all time.

I love the mystery of it all, and I am a HUGE fan. I watch every special they have, every interview panel, keep up on all of the message boards and theories...

I think it will have a great end!

They say that some people will be bothered by the ending.

I'm still watching it. I have faith that they can at least make it cool, even if not having it make sense. They've said they don't plan to explain every little detail, basically admitting it is fiction. But they say we'll get a lot of answers to things we thought would never be made clear. It sounds as if it will be satisfying.

There has only been one series finalé which I felt was truly any good and that was Voyager: Endgame.

I watched every episode of Season 1 of Lost, then every episode of Season 2, then someone was rude enough to ask me what it's about and I realised a group of people are stuck on an island and have been for 2 series' with no apparent progress. I then realised I was bored.

Dark Skies is an example of being the other way, they gave you all the information so nothing was a mystery and it was boring because of that.

The X Files was great, they just forgot how to make decent episodes and end it properly. Whether this was because of the gravy train or they could not think of a suitable ending I am undecided.

Quantum Leap had an awful ending but I cannot think of any better way of ending it. I'm just a sucker for things being resolved and having a conclusion and the finalé seemed a bit of a cop out.

I'll stop now as I had better do some work...!

I first heard about Lost when I was briefly in the US and the first series was just coming to a close. Didn't get a chance to watch it, but read about it in the papers and thought it sounded fantastic.

I looked forward to it eagerly for nearly a year until it finally started showing in the UK. Ended up watching about an episode and a half, or maybe it was two and a half, and then gave up in a mood of general ticked-off-edness. I don't mind the idea of mixing realism with the surreal and fantastic, but they got the real-life parts so badly wrong it was just unwatchable. If you're going to start off with a survival drama, the least you can do is get the facts somewhere near right.

I really felt quite intrigued from the very beginning.

I wonder what exactly you mean when you talk about in not being realistic in parts where you felt it should be. It does get somewhat fictional, and very intricate and complicated. Are you referring to the fact that the plane split in half? That is eventually explained.

They actually explain a fair bit, you just have to watch it and study it enough if you really want it to make more sense.

I agree with Jaketheperformer...

I rewatched last season's finale last night and was suprised how well thought out it was. Of course, there is still the overriding feeling that a lot of the stuff in seasons 2 &3 won't get answered (they really were just making a lot of that stuff up as they went, I'm sure!) but I think the overall 'mythology' behind The Island will get answered.

Here's hoping anyway! Mind you, I absolutely loved the ending of The Sopranos while most hated it so I'm guessing you can't please everyone!

No, I meant the really basic stuff of survival. Food, water, waste disposal. It's been years now, so I don't remember the details any more.

The last straw for both Colin and me was when someone went into the wreckage of the plane to forage for food. A metal tube full of corpses baking in tropical sun for days. No-one would have been able to stay on the same beach with it, much less enter it, or indeed eat anything that came out of it.

I think the timelines are poorly defined in Lost.

I remember reading once that a reasonably low amount of actual time on the island had passed. Like a month or something.

It just feels like years to the viewer because it's boring [sic].

The timeline is extremely well thought out. The writers spend lots of time trying to make it all line up.
