What are the rules on advertising in signatures?

Postby Jake Mogul » Feb 2nd, '10, 13:33

I've been on this site for a while now and when I stop by I see other users have their signatures containing URLs to ebooks they wrote and websites they own.

Yet, when I did the same thing, it was fairly briskly removed and I was warned not to include advertising in my signature.

So...I thought...

I copied somebody else's signature - containing advertisng - exactly and placed it in my signature.

Funnily, the following day that user PM'd me asking why I was advertising their ebook. Advertising being the operative word.

What's the crack?

I take it you've not read this forum's rules. All is explained clearly there.

You'll find most boards are the same. The longer you stay and make a worthwhile contribution, the more respect you earn from mods and members and are given some largess as a reward.

That's not the issue. Only paying advertisers are permitted to advertise, which sounds fair to me. And even if it didn't, them's the rules.

Most boards won't like you till you have 1000+ posts, have proven that you hate Criss Angel, and have published atleast two ebooks. :P

i think if you contribute enough, help out and so on, then yeah you do get a little leeway (my signature as a case in point)...

but out of everything i've written and sold, this is the first time i've ever done it...so as long as you dont take the p**s, and behave yourself on here (and make more than 17 posts  :P :D ) you're ok....and if not, you're soon spanked by the mods...

which is basically, what I'm holding out for...

Well I didn't read the rules. Okay I did quite some time ago and forgot most of them. However my url doesn't sell anything, or give any product away except my take on the world, or my world, okay non of this applies, never mind.
Thanks for reading.
