Best ESP card effect?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I like the old 'Third Choice' ESP routine that can be found in Corinda - plays very big.

You give a spec a sealed 'prediction' envelope at the beginning of the evening. At the beginning of your show you display all five different ESP cards and slide them into small envelopes and seal them (or have them sealed). Give the envelopes to another spec (or distribute them amongst multiple specs).

What I then do it crack on with my show and between effects I ask for the spectator to randomly discard any one of their envelopes. I continue this between effects until the spec is only left with a single envelope. I bring them and the original spec (holding the prediction envelope) up on stage, have both envelopes opened and, lo and behold, the symbols match.

Works nicely on stage - cheap to put together and gets a great reaction!

That is a great method.

That is a great method. It was originally for use with playing cards but once you know the details it's trivial to use for ESP cards. Personally I use 'photos'* in an identity parade-type effect.

I don't usually get very excited about methods, but this is completely brilliant.

* If you know the method and understand about photos then you'll realise that you have to make some special effort or purchase to make this convincing...

I totally agree - it's the only ESP effect I use. Totally foolproof and, as you say, so cunningly simple! Somtimes I even get the specs to put the cards in the envelopes before handing them out!

For those of you that said you have a few issues with marked backs, there are a few good ESP effects in Larry Becker's World of Super Mentalism series. If memory serves you don't need a marked deck for most of them... the one I'm currently working on at the moment is Mind Blaster from World of Super Mentalism II and you don't need one for that at least.

Another vote for the Piatnik set. I've used the included marked cards very successfully in a simple matching routine which is included in the instruction leaflet - except that I use a presentation involving a pendulum.
