Index for animals

Postby Eshly » Feb 3rd, '10, 21:12

I am looking to buy/find a pocket index for animal names. Is there such a thing? I fear I will have to use Bang On and adapt the cards, but how can I remember all the animal names in that order?
I fear that a slip of memory or miss count is certainly possible, and don't want it to happen on stage.

Any suggestions for other pocket index's, or techniques to help this work? :)

How much control do you have over the staging area? Are assistants a possibility for example? If so, you have a much wider range of possibilities...

No assistance or stooges at all.

Platform or (possibly) walk around.

Bang On seems the best choice at the moment, but I really don't have much experience in the field.

Haven't had experience with Bang On, so don;t know the workings.

Assuming that won't work...pocket writing? Then you could do 'most any animal. I probably wouldn't recomend a swami in this case. The choice of animal is so big here, I wouldn't do an index unless you limit their choice...

Pocket writing is somewhat unsuitable for platform; as I want to do the reveal BEFORE he has even left his seat.

Bang On is a pocket index thing designed for cards; I suppose I am not allowed to reveal the exact workings, but here is what the spectator see's:

Name a card, free choice (7H say). You remove your wallet from your jacket, and from it drops a small envelope. Inside that envelope is the 7H.

I am sure you can tell how it is done, but I think it works better with animals than cards. Any suggestions? I don't want to swami it, because of the size of the print and the distance, and other factors. Plus my swami skills are moderate at best; I do numbers very well, but don't want to have to do a whole word. Plus ofcourse if its an index the word can be big and TYPED on there.

This probably doesn't help, but I have a sudden urge to do a routine with animal biscuits, ya know those little half choccy covered ones lol..

How cool would that be to be eating a packet and get to the last one, ask them to name an animal and just leave the packet on the table and walk away ...

Just me ? oh ... errr lol..

Ohh that would be cool!

No idea how to pull it off if you were that far away, but it would be good for a comedy gig :D

Well if you can't add the information in, that means the info has to already be there. There is such a large choice of animal you can do one of 3 things:

1) limit the choice of animals
2) go with the most common selected and hope for the best
3) don't do animals, but do something else...

I think it would be hilarious (or at least I'd find it funny)to stand on stage and just eat cookies in silence in the middle of a show. Maybe not funny to the audience but... I'd laugh.

I'm sorry but I can't seem to understand what it is you're asking?

If you want it to be a pocket index then it's fairly easy to limit the choice of animal to a common one just by saying a bullsh*t line like "People always go for the obscure animals like a cheetah or flamingo, which has the opposite effect to what they intended because it's quite predictable" before asking for a common enough animal. I guess you can also group a lot of animals together without causing too many problems by having groups such as 'bird' or 'insect' in there

I like that idea. Classify them by species and then sub-classify them by alphabetical order.

Or for all you biology nuts out there, classify them by Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
