Making and designing buisness cards

Postby Eshly » Feb 8th, '10, 23:22

So I've been wanting to get business cards for a while now, and I feel if I don't do it soon, I won't ever do it. I did a search, but couldn't find any threads about them, so I think I should start one :)

I am not even too sure what I should put on them, or how I can make a design for them? I wanted a black one, with coloured swiling designs, but I don't know where to start. Currantly the text on the front will read:

Theo Fraser
Psychological Illusionist
Close-up, Platform and Stage
Mental magic for all occations

What do you think? Maybe you can post pics of your own cards? :)

Ok first of all. You don't want too many things listed on your business card. It just looks silly. All you REALLY need is your name, Website, Email and possibly your phone number. Everything else that goes into more detail can be added to your website.

Your name website and contact details are all you need... titles give to much I think...

Also anyone your giving a card to will already know your a magician why else would you give him a card if it wasn't to do with work.

if you've not got any real world experience of gigging, or at least 3-5 routines to know inside out - then don't bother yet...

get your experience first, then see if you can get some smaller regular gigs and then get your business cards and start networking...dont run before you can walk...

i've no idea if you perform or what your skill level is - but hey, that doesnt stop some people :D

and please, dont go undercutting the pro's just to get gigs...

Well, at least it puts a bit of a barrier in the way of it by editing it out

I don't see why? It's a really good card.

Eshly when you decide to build your website you should take a look at http://www.yorkshireweddingmagician.co.uk I think you'll like it

Contact Ade at http://www.monster-creations.co.uk/. Top notch designs and done cheaply.

My one bit of advice is leave the back of the card blank, there are so many wonderful things you can do with it!

I disagree, when people give me a business card it gets thrown into a shoebox and it might come out again when I'm after something/someone. Putting 'Magician' or similar on there means the recipient won't forgot what it is you do

As for getting a website made, I know a lovely young woman who's rather quite good... ;)

If you want to have a go designing your own cards, I can recommend Inkscape. It's a free and very powerful vector image creator. Relativity easy to learn.

Ooh, seconded. It's a nice little free alternative to the Adobe suite. Does it let you export to a format that professional printers like, gillows? It's something I should start considering during those times I'm at a client's computer :)

@ Kolm, It supports most file formats. One very nice thing is it also lets you create and edit **Yes I said EDIT!!!!** PDF's. :D

If you have Linux try Xara free, though I think they do a free Mac version too. Very intuitive and has lots of features.

Windows users get trial or full price versions only.
