As a performer, people pay to watch you display your talents

Postby Anna » Feb 9th, '10, 18:54

How cool is that?

I was walking home today from a particularly dull lucture on old people and realised something. When I perform, I get paid. In that sense, people are paying me to display one of my talents.

That hit me hard...even though I have been performing for a good while now.

It just made me think...people are spending their hard earned money paying to watch me perform - specifically taking time out of their day to watch and then consider themselves entertained.

Have any of you guys or girls ever thought this? It just made me really warm and bubbly inside!

It's a great feeling when you can go away knowing that you've done a good job and people have enjoyed watching you. Even better feeling when you think that you're getting paid for doing something that you love.

It always makes me smile and feel priviliged. However it does carry the burden of responsibility with it. If someone is going to pay me for my services I have to be good. Therefore as well as giving me laugh lines the job gives me worry lines too!!!

The pursuit of excellence comes before the money - although that's very nice too

I find you get a buzz from performing whether it be for my friends or just a few randoms on the street I find, when you get a good reaction it gives you a buzz and you want to give more people a buzz.

Its good to know people pay to see you perform, but I find no amount of money can buy that look of amazement on somebodys face when you should them something they didn't believe is possible.

I agree with TLS - I did a gig in London on Sunday night that went well but not spectacularly.

However, I was working late on Monday night (at my 'proper' job) and got chatting to the security guard. I mentioned my interest in magic and very quickly did a Hoy Book test, an impromptu memory effect and finished up by telling him the name of the actor he was thinking of.

It took about 3 minutes maximum, but the look on his face reminded me all over again why I love it!
