Ring Vanishing Hankerchief...

Postby Domino » Feb 10th, '10, 22:59

Im having a bit of trouble with ending this routine. It starts of obviously as asking spectator for his/her ring - placing under handerchief - make it disappear into thin air! This parts the easy bit....but according to the instructions, and the amount of time between placing the ring underneath the hanky and making it disppear, how do i secretly load the specs ring into another prop. I can only manage to make it re-appear from my pocket which isnt that impressive to be honest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're looking to invest you could do worse than checking out Interlace by Richard Sanders http://www.sandersfx.com/interlace.html

Martin sanderson has a very nice ring to sealed envelope trick on his latest DVD The Business costs pence (the trick not the DVD) but worth lots!

use your imagination...

what would impress you if you were watching it all happen? then make it a reality...

you're in control of what happens...think about the timing of the routine, what happens, when, and how do you return the ring?

I always thought if somebody was wearing a relatively loose ring  it would be a great effect for them to be holding it in the hankey  and then it appears back on their finger. Muahahaha!

Thanks for your feedback. I'll just alter my routine so that i do something in between taking the ring and placing it under the hankerchief.

nope, you do something after puting the ring under the hank, and before removing the hank to show it's gone.

Just out of curiosity where are you performing? I only ask because it may influence where you can reappear it from; ie. a bread roll in a restaurant.

Another idea is maybe to pop it into the volunteers pocket and then step away from them, it takes some balls but will be much more impressive than producing it from your own.

Ive only performed this one at my home entertaining guests or round friends houses at the moment.

I know what you mean, the instructions do give some good ideas but im having to change the timing of the routine in order to load the ring into a prop of some sort, thats my main concern.

My preference would be to have it reappear on their finger.

Keep it tasteful, though, rings can often mean a lot to someone, so it obviously shouldn't appear somewhere disturbing or gross (including but not limited to: body cavities, socks and undergarments). People are momentarily trusting you with something of a possible very high emotional value, so you should treat it with respect. In fact, the ring can be a very strong symbol of something, which it might be an idea to capitalize on, rather than just treat it like a meaningless prop. (Of course such a presentation might not suit your own performance style well... there are many ways to do magic :) )

On the other end of the spectrum, Penn and Teller might get away with making someone's wedding ring appear in the inner organs of a baby seal they eviscerate on stage (they made Stephen Fry's watch appear inside a fish one time), but then again, when people go to their shows, they expect things to be gross and provocative.
