a potential threat to burlesque clubs?

Postby daleshrimpton » Feb 12th, '10, 11:29

Thanks to changes in the law, Lap dancing clubs are in danger of being shut down, if local residents object to their presence..
see artical bellow.

Now, why am i posting this? ( since i never have, nor will visit a lap dancing club myself )

Because, it crossed my mind that this could potentialy affect the burlesque market too.

I note that pubs that curently have strippers in, may only be subject to this rule, if they put on a maximum of 12 shows per year..Many Burlesque clubs, open their doors more frequently than this..

Its worth looking into. :)

Lapdancing comes down to how far away the dancer is from the punter. Most burlesque occurs on a stage. Hopefully the legislation that is brought in will make the difference clear.

To be honest, I don't see the problem with lapdancing places once your in. The issue ought to be the frontage of the venues, not what goes on within.

I may be wrong but I think the distinction is that lap dancing takes place in a private club whereas Burlesque is a theatrical production open to the public.

so are pubs, and clubs with strippers. And It's that 12 shows a year loophole, that might effect the Berlesque trade.

It's quite easy to distinguish between the two. If the Boa is real, close them down.

Why not just stay open 24/7? That's one "performance" a year

I was always under the impression that the difference was due to the amount of 'exposure' i.e. burlesque could be performed in a wider range of venues as they ladies always kept specific parts of their anatomy concealed by pasties and those tiny little pairs of knickers they wear. As there is no naked nipplage then it doesn't count as fully topless.

(incidently, thats also one of my mantras for life. :D )

^ Thats one definition. I don't think you could get a cigarette paper between the two different types of act. But I wouldn't half like to try. :D
