I just read on the magiccafe forum how the NW was exposed on the tv show The Mentalist and now that it worried me but it made me think if you could have a prediction written on the computer and the prediction word could be wrote in the same style ( not using NW)...Could something like this be achieved? Brainstorming?

I do JUST that in my show.. A PRINTED prediction that is NOT a force based on an idea from Tim Conover.

yeah, but if you read all of that thread - you'll also read that plenty of people are still using one...

i wouldnt worry about it really...when you consider how much of magic has been exposed over the years, yet people still "get away with it"...

A "printed" prediction? When you say "printed" are you saying it LOOKS printed or it IS printed; because they are too different things.

i think i can predict your next question...

Well....I'm not worrying about it...I was just thinking if it was possible to ask a person to concentrate and try to receive a word you are transmitting...then you can reveal a printed ( I mean : IN PRINT) prediction with that word being predicted). That would be a mentalist fooler )

My idea would be an electronic device that has voice recognition so it can write what you spell and something like a printer...all incorporated in one little device.

So when the spectator say the word you can repeat it:

Hero ( than you make a little pause...in this time the device recognise the word...the word is written and you print it with the device on the paper after the message: I predict that you will receive my word corectly. The word will be: ...)...Did you just pick a word at random or you fell that that is the word to say...etc

I don't know if that would be possible and I know it would be pretty expensive but it would be awesome.

The viewers of The Mentalist that saw the episode with the NW and rembered it would be like: WTF? and the mentalists the same...he he :p

well, there's lots of ways of having a properly printed prediction without the need of all that electronics...

Yes I know but not for any word in the dictionary or for any number...and to be able to have the prediction in your hand as you're talking!

Really? Then why the hell do we still use the NW?

because the NW is instant...a sealed printed prediction can take a little more work...

if you're seeing mentalism as purely an impromptu thing, then, well, even so - with the right premise and set up, yes...a sealed, printed word is pretty easily achievable...

The "exposure" on that show was only showing the old bit of led tucked beneath the nail bit that's been used by hustlers, carneys and bookies for ever. For someone that knows how to work a proper swami there should be absolutely NO PROBLEM. For those that are still worried about things, I'd suggest you take a look at Rick Maue's essay on pages 54 & 57 of The Book of Haunted Magick... you may also note the copyright of that book and how Rick is looking at when the masked marvel tipped said method... which has actually been tipped at least once every generation and ironically, we keep on using the little suckers and getting away with it

Stop worrying about it
Stop making a big deal over it
START learning how to work with such things properly and you will not have problems

I must repeat...I am not worried I was just having an idea about a prediction...that's it
