Help with sleights

Postby PheonX » Apr 6th, '05, 16:27

Hi, I've started learning card tricks recently and i find that I have a problem with almost every sleight of hand trick I do... the problem being a slight dragging noise whenever i do a trick (say a glide or palm cut or anything). Is there a specific thing that I'm doing wrong??

I'd question if it's going to be absolutely silent where you're performing and I'd suggets that your patter will hide any slight noise that may concern you.

I know there is one particular manoeuvre that has been discussed because it may result in a noise and the response from some folks is that the noise adds to the magic effect!

I would suggest changing card brand...

Certainly there should be no noise doing a glide...

Bicycle brand cards are coated with an excellent almost 'Teflon' like coating, and they are excellent for magicians and manipulators.

I would suggest that if you are using expensive cards and STILL getting the noise, then practice a lot more ;)

Hi there Pheonx,

Welcome to the site!

Bicycle Cards will make a WORLD of difference! You will be amazed at just how they aid glides, Elmsley Counts, and so on.

As JuanTheMan rightly says - your patter will easily cover the noise of the moves.

Actually, digressing slightly, has anyone else noticed just how easily distracted an audience gets when in a largish group? - They often turn to talk to each other, which makes our life so much easier! It doesn't always happen (my routines aren't that boring - honest!) - As a relatively newbie still, I just found it very encouraging when I realised that it was far easier to perform certain moves that I ever thought it would be!

Good Luck mate, and let us know what you think of the Bikes!

how bout crack a joke..or having the audience count to ten or something...in a large group these kinda things just work themselves out...but honestly if your finding it much of a problem..just get new cards

Make sure you're doing your moves slowly.
If you rush a glide you'll get a lot more noise.
