Anyone know a good source for learning more rubber band stuff? I can do the several variations of jumping band from Mark Wilson's and crazy man's handcuffs, is there much else out there? For some reason I really love band magic, perfect impromptu stuff and would love to learn more.

Any ideas?

I have to be absolutly honest and say, Ive never been a huge fan of rubber band magic.( Hairy forearms and bands.. a painful mix :lol:

) However, I have the Banding Around dvd. Its good.

I have the Link dvd. I see you already perform the Crazy Mans Handcuffs so Link would be a handy addition. As well as the usual penetration out, it also teaches you how to go in the way and also to penetrate one strand at a time. Theres also some exellent tips and handling ideas which really make it look like the bands are popping through one an other

Theres a really nice effect on 'Magic at the Edge' dvd set called Hermetic Stargazer, but thered be no point buying the set if nothing else on there appealed to you

Which rubber bands do you get for magic?
Where from?
I know that people say they use size 19, but what does that represent in inches or even mm?
(I'm getting into rubber band magic, and am not sure what to get)

Boomerang Elastic band is a good effect to watch. Last time I checked Theory11 were offering it for free. The download though was something ridiculous because the quality was insane.

Alliance Gold rubber bands from the US are supposed to be the best to use, a bit like Bikes for card magic. Staples do them in the US sizes of 19, 17 and so on. If you put Alliance Gold into the Search function you'll find many previous threads which cover the sizes, sources and so on - best of luck!

I've heard that, I tried them out and to be honest, they are no different from your average rubber bands of the same size. I do my rubber band tricks a lot lately, they are a good go-to for something quick if someone asks to see a trick, so I get a good ammount of practice and there really isn't any difference from what I can tell.
Just dont get the round type of band, get the flat ones, the rounded ones will twist and give you a pinch. (You'll see what I mean by rounded ones if you look in a stationary shop, some are orangey and flat, then theres ones that are more like a loop of wire, they suck for tricks.)

Jerome, head down to your local stationers and pick up a mixed bag of bands, find one that suits the size of your hands, as far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference in makes of band.

Thanks for that!
I was talking to Mathieu Bich a friend of mine, who told me that there is no real difference in the "feel" of the bands, but he told me the amount of latex vary amongst rubber bands. He told me the best were japanese ones, as they have more latex than others, therefore more robust.
American ones are 2nd...
I have been using Royal mail bands so far for rubber band magic, but their stretchiness is limited, however, when you pull 'em out, everybody recognise them!!! Which is great as people laugh when I say "they are magic bands, very expensive"...
I think I'll go down to Rymans this weekend and get a bag of random ones. If it doesn't work, then I might invest in some American bands.
