Small technical support

Postby Indiana » Feb 25th, '10, 12:28

Hi,
I am really a newbie, but I found a small technical thing I would like to share. It is a very simpel App for IPhone/IPod ("Secret Vibes") which connect two devices. Then you can send small message using vibration. I used this for mental tricks. For example I guess the color of a card i dont see. A friend sends the corrsponding code via the vibration to the iphone in my poket. It is very simple, but you can do it very spontaniously. You can even to some extend let the audience decide what the trick shall be. The only issue is. that you have to have a WLAN spot, which i fortunatelly have in my flat :-)
Cheers
Jonas

Is it encrypted or do all iPhones in the vicinity vibrate if they're running the same app?

Sounds interesting... do you need to actually be on the sending iphone to send a message, or can you do it secretly?

It'd be a pain if you had to make a phone call to do so.

I asked about encryption because the code sent out by each of my thumpers is guaranteed globally unique using KeyLoqencryption. Only one transmitter and receiver pair can understand each other. All other receivers ignore the gibberish they talk. It's crackable - all encryption is - but by computer scientists, not by muggles.

why not just put your phone on vibrate and get your accomplice to send an sms or call you?

"you are thinking of a red card " "bing"

or, how about, have your accomplice in the audience and then have them wave at you when you get the answer right.

There are some quite expensive devices that use a transmitter (i think one of them is a magic die) but if you need an accomplice, just get them to hold up a certain number of fingers to show you what the spec selected (or rolled)

surely?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm not sure of a way to use an iphone to send a message secretly

Ooh, that's good to hear. I did wonder if it was possible for some good for nothing kid to be able to mess things up :)

It's very secure. You'd have to swamp the signal with exactly the right frequency to interfere with it, and cloning the keyfob to transmit your own signals isn't practical.

You couple two devices first, and then consequently only the coupled device will vibrate.
I dont quite get the encryption part?
About the discussion with the sms and call. The difference for me is the vibrating allows little more semtantics in the message. With a call you can only say yes or know. But with virbrations you can easly transmit number up to 5 or more (number of vibrations). Furthermore the app is easlily controllable with one hand, as the full screen is touchable.
