I've had a little idea...

I have no idea where this thread should be, so mods please feel free to move it. The recent heckling thread that has been locked brought my attention to something. When a post is edited, any quotes of that post remain unchanged. Obviously, it is not worth reworking the entire forum over a minor flaw such as this, so I have a little suggestion to make: If you see something offensive, it may be best not to quote it in any way, but refer to it ambiguously, such as "I found the first point you made very offensive", instead of quoting it all over the thread, which is like spreading dog mess in your hair, instead of putting it in a bag and covering your nose until it is binned (bow down to the analogy master! ), as it ends up much harder to clean off once you have! :D
Note to self: Never put an image like that in peoples heads again!

It's not a flaw with the forum.

When you "quote" a post, you actually post something completely new and unrelated to the original post. It's just like italics.

If threads have to be edited then quotes and nested quotes make the job that much more time consuming  !

Several times I've come to a discussion late, after someone went back and deleted several posts. If it wasn't for quotes, I'd never have been able to follow what went on!

So it's a boon for late nosy people.

Plus it means that mischevious people can't go back, edit their posts and thus have their quotes edited also so as to eg. go back on a statement.. The wonders of the internet!

Just to keep things on topic - that was a quote and you can't change what you wrote  !!
