ALPHA REEL

Postby Miniolo » Feb 5th, '10, 15:23

hi there i got the alpha reel since yesterday i also got tarantula loops and IT IET but this gimmick is so cool u can just walk away from the floating object

if u walk away the levitating object dangles like its on a string!:P

it really gives away alot i think... how can i disquise this so it doesn look like its dangling do i need to walk backwards quicker slower? or steady or is there any other option?

i noticed u can also use the gimmick as a POWERWORD FALL effect:D its really lovely :D and alot stronger and less prep time

does any one know other routines with this?

thnx in advance

Personaly i hate the washing line effect. That is, any small floatation, that hangs there between you, and a very obvious anchor point.

And this is a prime example, of a situation where bad performance skills have done far more damage, and exposure, than exposure.

If you want to get away from this,

First.. Dont walk away from the item. You can walk in a straight line, and this continues the line .
Secondly, given that you are much closer to the item, That is, It's within your field of fluence, use your hands to change the position, and hight.
Also, by using your hands as a fulcrum, or pivit point, position your anchor to the left, or right of you.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

watch Steve Fearsons floating cig. It is a great piece and you already own the props and even the method. Forget the whole clothesline anchorpoint thingamaboboli.

No, the Tarantula may work though. The original floating cigarette uses IT and a clever hook-up - a normal reel wouldnt be much use. The technique can be used for floating other small objects aswell. I have used it for cigarettes, bills, rings and even a spinning coin. Ive also seen someone (I think it was Marco Tempest) using a fortune cookie.
One of the strong points with the Fearson hook-up is the amount of movement you can get with the floating object. There are also subleties you can use which really make it look like a thread would be impossible. :)
Steve Fearson should be mentioned in the Tarantula manuscript as the hook-up Yigal uses is based on Fearsons.

You can lock the turantula into position so it will work using the fearson method, with the added benefit that you don't have to walk around with the set up. You can hook it up on the go infront of your spectator, (its even taught on the video). What I like about the Fearson method is that you get so much movement, and you can float objects through the spectators hands.
