You had to remind me of the Karate Kid... It's going to end up like the re-make of the Shining.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

The Tron Alternate Reality Game is going strongly, and somehow I've netted some good merchandise - A security badge for Encom. The company in the film. And it looks snazzy, far better than my actual work security badge...

Is it getting desperate or lazy?

I'm sure there are still people out there with fresh ideas. I get the sense that the execs don't want to gamble money on them when they can just churn out a tried and tested formula under a familiar title with retro appeal.

Yes, there are folks out there with "fresh" ideas the problem is Hollywood has become a thing worse than a "good ole boy's club" it has become a pyramid of familial associations and unless you are either directly related or brought in via marriage, chances are close to nil that your ideas will ever get tabled and even at that, you must cow down to whichever iron hands are out there. A great example is how Cameron managed to force
M. Night Shyamalan to remove the proper title from the new film "Last of the Air Benders" film in which AVATAR is the established prefix.

The rule of thumb in Hollywood and much of American Show Biz these days is that being a part of an established show biz family is the ultimate ace up one's sleeve. Having a significant level of fluid economic backing (or personal wealth) is the second major trump in that most "celebrities" of the past generation bought and paid for said status... just look at Tv & film credits and you'll seen numerous instances in which the star of the show is the executive producer and/or similar management level influence. It is a common fact in the Film, Television and live show mediums. Next in line is to be Jewish... I'm not being antisemitic here, it's simply a fact that Jews & Catholics tend to dominate the industry followed by the "minority" card... I'm not talking as much about "race" as I am the current "flavor of the month" i.e. gays/lesbians, blacks or the current trend tied to Latinos/Hispanics... this is a category that is influenced significantly by the social-political atmosphere of the nation.

So as they said in the 80s, in order to "make it" in Hollywood you must be the Lesbian child of a Catholic & Jewish parentage who are likewise black & Hispanic or, if possible Native American and partners in a Casino...

Strangely enough this was mentioned only yesterday by some friends who were discussing the dire state of UK daytime TV. Prime example was Diagnosis Murder where just about all of Dick Van Dyke's family have appeared or been associated with the show at some point. I have no problems with anyone looking after the kids etc in terms of employment but it does sound as though the only way they'll get work is via good ol' Dad!

I was shocked to discover that Jackie Chan and his producer/business partner Willie Chan aren't actually related.

Bang goes my entire model of mainstream media nepotism.

And Bruce Lee and Christopher Lee! I recently found out that not only are they not related, they never actually met! And "Dracula Meets the Master of Kung Fu" would have been one film that would have had me queueing up in the rain to see.

Ergh, I saw the trailer for the A-Team film, looks god awful. I liked the original Tron though, hoping they dont screw it up.
