What Robbie Said

Postby pcwells » Mar 29th, '10, 18:35

Hiya!

Following on from Robbie's post in Innuendo Bingo with a direct reply would have been innapropriate, so I've given it its own thread.

Having spent a few minutes on Failblog, I found this little gem.

Very bad taste, I grant you, but hilarious nonetheless.

Talking of Failblog, I have a confession to make to all here....

http://failblog.org/2010/03/08/mr-chips ... ughty-boy/

I am the male contestant in this clip - it was filmed in July 1994 (World Cup Final day should anyone be interested......) and it has haunted me forever since.

Denis Norden kept showing it.... Then Youtube plastered it everywhere.. and now bloody failblog!

Still, I've grown to love it and quite like the quasi-celebrity it has afforded me :-) (and, it could be worse... think how the other contestant feels whenever she sees it.. at least I won!!!)

Autographs? Please form an orderly queue

Well, if I'd have just blurted out "W@*k*r!", I suspect the clip may not quite have had the airplay that it's had over the years!!!! :-)

"Mr Chips" is one of our all-time favourite outtakes around here! What we especially like is the way it manages to get worse and worse the more it's revealed.

Never knew it was you, Klangster! I'll have to tell Colin when he's back from his nap.

Another outtake I like from Catchphrase is one I can't find a clip of. The picture was revealed to be a crying cloud (presumably My Blue Heaven). Nobody got it, so Roy Walker beamed out: "And the answer is... Columbo!"

A tale from UK Game Shows:
Roy Walker once recounted the ancedote of the show once running out of catchphrases. The second of the four shows being recorded that day had got through a huge number of phrases that neither contestant knew. The computer files were being flown in on disc from the US, so a bike was rushing to the airport to pick them up. During the filming break, one of the contestants kept nipping back to his dressing room. It turned out that he was taking swigs of booze, and eventually became legless. The reserve contestant was telephoned, but he put the phone down not realising that they needed him immediately and went back to working on his allotment. So a car was dispatched to find him in the gardens and take him back to the studio. But then that car broke down causing a delay, and to cap it all the bike bringing back the catchphrases also broke down.
