ass of the titans

Postby daleshrimpton » Mar 30th, '10, 09:10

I was looking forward to seeing the clash of the titans.

though, i would of gone with reservations because I have fond memories of the original, and love Harryhausens work with a passion, because of the sheer amount of artistry that was put into making the characters real.

but now.. Im not so sure i fancy it .

why?

This quote from lead actor Sam Worthington, thats why...

When I watched it ( the original movie) I didn't think it was really relevant for my nine-year-old nephew. I thought we could ramp it up a bit, we could improve the special effects and ramp it up to 11," said star Sam Worthington.

not relevant? The story is based on greek myths.. how can it be not relevent?

Why do some actors open their mouths before engaging their brains?

( and whos this we? Hes only an actor, not the director. His job is to stand there and look pretty )

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

That's why the quote doesn't bother me at all. Knowing anything about movies isn't a requirement of being a movie star.

It's a bit like being a pop star. In fact, producers and labels would much rather their 'pop stars' didn't have any broad knowledge of music or passion for anything other than the stuff they're given to sing. It stops them from having ideas of their own in the studio.

I'm sure the same applies to big-budget cinema.

Still looking forward to the movie. Even if one of the cast is a dimwit. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if he has for 90% of this movie. :)

i think though, we have that fondness, so everything else is against what we hold dear...but, i've seen the trailers and it does look interesting/fun...

I have to confess, the trailers to this flick disappoint me more than excite me. I loved the original and believe it a major classic of the film world, but this new production is once again an overly glamorized cartoon with limited live actor interaction and lots of green screens.

Though I am quite fond of the CGI technology and what can be done with it, I also believe that its introduction into the film world has seriously hurt Hollywood, making it lazier and far too dependent on special effects vs. a solid plot line and good acting.

I am a bit annoyed they got rid of Bulbo the Robotic Owl. He was awesome in the original.

Though on the plus side the Kraken looks "scarier" and more monstrous, Medusa looks a bit better (even though the original one was really good for it's time.

They got rid of Calibos, he was a major part of the film. I also don't like Liiam Neeson being a shiny Zeus.

Morning Dale,

Good question. Enter the rather sad, geeky Archaeology student (who happens to be doing his Classical Greek module at the moment) to answer.

I believe it's because the "Titans" were a group of mythological deities who were the direct descendants of two higher gods called Gaia and Uranus (no sniggering children).

There were 12 Titans originally (I forget their names) but considering the films plot is that these Titans (or greek dieties) are always fueding and arguing....or what you could call "clashing".....equates to the title "Clash of the Titans"

Also, in answering this question, I now realise that you may actually have been joking, thus rendering my point moot. Sorry about that mate.

i wasnt joking...

but i was sugesting that it should of had a different name to the original, since so much of the film has been changed, and ignored.

I mean, since when was Pegasus black?

It's political correctness gone mad!

Pegasus is black now you say? Philistines!

I couldn't agree more with you there. Nothing is sacred to the PC brigade is it eh? (certainly not in mythology I guess).

They'll be refering to the "Three Old Blind Witches" as the "Three optically impaired female senior citizens" next.

The worst thing I've heard about this film is how the studio have decided to retrospectively re-tool it into a 3D flick.

The film wasn't orginally shot in 3D but, since the success of Avatar, they've decided to shoe horn some shots of Pegasus flying towards the screen, etc in order to charge an extra couple of quid per ticket.

And people still try to convince me that 3D isn't a gimmick.....

 Good point.

I'm sensing there'll be some hillarious internet spoofs coming soon after it's release. Possibly Medussa plugging a shampoo for dry, damaged reptilian hair (because she's worth it)
