Not wanting to come across like a precious thirteen year old princess or anything but "I have broken a nail"!!!!!!

I couldn't give a monkeys abot aesthetics, but I'm supposed to be doing a small performance in a weeks time and that was kinda important to one part of the performance...

Anyone got any suggestions - other than come up with a new section - which is where I am right now.

Richard

Exactly, as an avid D.I.Y'er I have had on more than one occasion, "borrowed" one of my wife's false nails. They can be trimmed to fit and left unvarnished will not draw any attention.

Whilst on the nail topic, if you ever have the misfortune to get a blood blister under a nail (known as bruised blood in the UK) try this. mix some make-up foundation which is slightly darker than your own skin with some cosmetic tooth whitener. the result will be a strong hard wearing "paint" which will last for many performances.

I've never understood the mentality of 'oh no, i've broken a nail, rush me to hospital'. As lenoir said, you could alterntativley man up a little.

Considering it takes around 10-12 weeks for the hole to advance past the nail bed, I don't suggest you follow this course of action. Your may evacuate most of the blood but the discolouration will remain and look ugly especially when you don't want them looking at your finger nails.

If the prices are as cheap to get your nails done in Hampshire as they are in east London then it is worth the small amount of money getting your nails done by a manicurist. Just ask for a natural french gloss and for the broken nail(s) to be repaired with acrylic so that they are all the same size and looking decent again.

Use a boon :) And what's with this ongoing thing for magicians that "because your hands are on display", it's not weird for guys to get a manicure?! It is! Nothing wrong with nails kept neat and clean, both of which you can do yourself. Every time I'm in a magic shop, chances are someone comes along with what I can only presume are "natural gloss" nails, trying to be nonchalant about it. I promise you, people notice, and the first thought that pops into their heads isn't "oh look, how considerate, he's had a manicure to make it more pleasant for us to see his nails when he performs magic..."

On this one point, Eugene Burger has a lot to answer for...
