Gimmicking a notepad???

Postby IrieMagic » Apr 9th, '10, 20:04

Is there any way I can gimmick a notepad to make it in to an impression device or so I can peek the word they have written.

I have thought about using c***** p**** in some way but I'm not sure how.

Thanks for any tips

or reading corinda and annemann...has everything you need to adapt to this idea...

which isnt new by any means - but you'll get what to do by reading those two books...

You talk of c***** p**** which means you've likley read Corinda. But you ask this question, which means you haven't studied it in depth. Please, go back to Corinda- if my deductions are wrong, get it.
Oh the irony of my previous post.

Or contact John Riggs and pay him $50ish bucks for a Butterfly device

Then again, certain pocket notebook types are already gimmicked to be used in this way 8)

BUT, as has been said STUDY THE BOOKS! Stop trying to find the short cuts in that they will hurt you in the long run because you are not properly prepared for doing the work...

EXAMPLE: You use this imp pad device to get some information, now what do you do with it?

Are you going to do a magic trick and just blurt out the word OR are you going to create a miracle by revealing that information in a slower, more impossible (feeling) manner?

Are you aware of the fact that methods exist that will give you this same sort of information (a word or image people are thinking of) without using Billets or an Imp Pad?

You will find it in Corinda... at minimum there are two methods that come into mind at the moment, potentially three NONE requiring an additional person or gimmicks of any kind, you can literally do it anytime and most anywhere you wish and I can assure you, it will blow people's minds.

Knowing this sort of thing is what makes one more of a Mentalist vs. some clown that dabbles in mentalism just to show off... a magician that has little to no respect of the craft but seeks to exploit the ego-boost it can give them. For this reason, they ignore the nuances and advantages learned through both, study and real-world practice (not to be confused with practicing a move at home... we're talking about sucking it up and doing it for real with total strangers)

Think about what you really want to accomplish and the kind of performer you want to be. If you decide that you really want to be a Mentalist then READ ... better yet STUDY those foundation books I mentioned before. Become a sponge so you can absorb the data.

On the other hand, if you just want to do tricks... PLEASE leave mentalism alone! There are tons of corny tricks out there you can play with but we do not need another buffoon ruining this art... learn to rely on the Center Tear maybe, most magician's think it to be God's answer to it all, but leave the good stuff to the rest of us.

I agree, Pencil reading and so on is the cleanest of all; but it does have its downsides. Without the proper pencil/paper/position/conditions its almost possible to use ANY word.

Overall the Butterfly is a much easier way, if presented correctly. But it is not impromptu. The methods in Corinda DO reccomend using I** pads over pencil reading if possible by the way, but god knows that doesn't mean you should rule out everyway. I always practise my Center Tear for emergancies.

A bit of editing has taken place, whilst c***** p**** is not a common as it used to be, specs still know about it. No need to be too explicit folks!

I suppose it depends upon you're definition of impromptu, it does SEEM impromptu, but in reality it does involve a gimmick which you must carry around with you.

Its no hassle though, I can still reccomend it.

Yeah, people are very suspicous of impression devices these days. It takes a very relaxed attitude so that the thought doesn't even cross the audiences mind.
Once again, completley agree with craig, the foundaation books which are bloody bargains as far as I'm concerned, have all you need to know within them- as oppose to these hyped up commercial mentalism, which are more than often much more easily achieved with the simple stuff. I saw this wallet being advertised which allowed you to peek at some information- because there is nothing about that in Corinda is there? HMM.. (and it's cheaper, for gods sake!).
Mentalism does deserve lots of respect and the horrible attitude of magicians who as craig said dabble in mentalism that 'as long as they don't know when you peeked it it's fine' is just like sexually harrassing the art of mentalism.

The Tommy Pad may do what you need. You can create your own imp pad using the instructions, and make it look very innocent. There is at least one review on this site.

Why limit yourself to imp devices? There are a ton of other ways that you can get hold of written information. Peaks and tears for starters and they can be totally impromptu.

True, but they hardly look 'fair' do they? One of my favourite routines in 357 because it can be done under total test conditions, and there is NOTHING to be found as a gimmick in sight.

Tears are particularly suspicious because you handle the paper you'reself, I find that a billet s****h is actually much more deceptive, because this allows you to have the billet in full view the whole time - or so it would seem.

EDIT:

CAN WE PLEASE START CALLING IT AN I** PAD!
