There is a spacebar for a reason, or an underscore for a reason should it be in an online context ;)

Cassidy's trick for memorizing an entire deck is always nice. I've seen one mentalist performing it on the morning show, and admired his pure gall. I also performed it for some of my friends, and they don't allow me to play poker with them anymore. Well, at least until I promised I will shut down my super memory for the night. And amazingly enough, I did!

I also heard of a method where you memorize an entire deck by giving a number to each card. It then becomes quite easy to do some card sorting tricks. But I don't have any experience with this sort of a thing.

ChrisBeard- what kolm said.
dup- you might be talking about mnemonica (wooh- I didn't say mneumonica!!) from Tamariz in which he suggests you learn the card's orders and respective position (without mnemonics) that allows you to do gazillions of effects, and quite easily many memory effects. You might just be talking about mnemonics in general, and learning the position of each card in the deck sounds like something Tony Buzan would suggest as most of the other mnemnocists (Or something like that) suggests methods which are more 'order' orientated; that is learning the deck's order rather than learning the position of the cards. I have prefered the latter, Like Dominic O'brien's (not a magician btw) suggested methods which can, if you want be adapted to work out the posision.

Arkesus- I did like that. I have seen the version of ootw performed in a pseudohypnotic way so that the spectator develops a hypnotic photographic memory. I tend to like those ideas in the category of 'allowing the spectator to show skill' and 'spectator as mentalist' effects are a particular interest of mine. It gets around the problem of 'look at me, I'm so clever'. Not that that's a bad thing, if your audience likes you, but sometimes its not good. Anways, nice.

I suppose you could memorize the cards in a random order... set the deck, and then do a bunch of false shuffles or a deck switch or something. I'm sure that would be pretty impressive with the right performance.

pretty much goes without saying. One of my favourites is photomemory by hans trixer, it's essentially a caan effect, but has so many spins its untrue.
