Good news for people wishing to see new material from Harling & Nyrup and who’s been searching in vain for Sleight of Mind and Geist. New book is coming.

Sleight of Mind and Geist were both good books. Wonder what this one is about? Anyone any ideas?

I've still scoured the internet and (in desperation, possibly even a local oxfam bookstore)... to no avail, this elusive Holy grail that I have hyped and built up one's own mind from sheer longing. If ever there was a book to pine over, Sleight Of Mind is the one; but at £75 on Amazon, it's tantalisingly out of reach. Think I'd rather splash out on a stylish shirt... Oh dear I think I already have

I think I just found something that will make us both happy then: The new book incorporates an updated Sleight of Mind, Geist and 100 or so new pages of stuff. Just £34.99 (both books were about £35 quid each.) Mine is now on order!

you're looking for a definite answer, to a question that relies upon taste and choice...

Actually £34.99 is pretty good value.

I was just looking for either book to be well written, engaging, makes you think "hmmm that COULD work actually!" as you read it, as well as being thought-provoking to make you think "ah, perhaps I would do something similar, but in THIS style..."

A few usable effects as well would be a bonus, as, whilst reading a great book on magic is enriching in itself, some outstanding effects would be a real bonus. Something to show for you money, in addition to an intrigued mind with no pay load and no immediate outlet to convey. Primarily, however, unlike reading a book on sleights, either volumes I mentioned (I hope) would be more accessible in that compared to a book on sleights you are not stopping and starting.

Personally, I found reading RRTCM or a bit of Bobo to be, whilst initially satisfying in that learning a sleight was a sense of achievement, it was the ad hoc turning of pages, fondling of playing cards that became a gripe from the view of not feeling progress; that is, some days / weeks down the line and you were still turning the first few pages.

A question that relies upon taste and choice this is, but I was just hoping for some shout outs as to which volume suits the premise of sitting down, uninterrupted (like someone finally getting rid of their guests to settle down to a nice sit down and a read) and begin a process of discovery, all the while being guided by a magical tour guide aboard the open top red bus of mentalism.

I got the above and more from Geist. To me it's the book that changed how I thought about myself and how I use effects. I'm not a career mentalist, so I haven't a clue which of the tricks in it are original, but there's a lot in there, and I've never heard of any of them. It shows you how to make one trick into a lot of tricks, that's the bonus really. It does make you think, and start to wonder about who you are and whether who you're being as you perform works. I sold my copy for £50 and have regretted it ever since.

I dunno what's in the new one, but Geist cost me £30-odd quid a couple of years ago, so Geist, Slieght of Mind and 100 pages of new stuff is value for money and then some. Are there reviewers on here who get new books like this first before the public? Will they be able to let us know what the score is with it asap?
