What is that Blaine effect?

Postby vietnam37 » Apr 21st, '10, 07:46

Was watching David Blaine's 'What is magic?' the other day. A deck is flipped over with one hand by the spectator (Orlando Bloom) and a thought of card appears at the top. Anyone know what the effect is called? It looked amazing...

I don't know exactly what that effect is, but it is very similar to an effect put out by Pit Hartling in his book Card Fictions.

With a little thinking on the method of that trick you can get the effect shown on the Blaine program.

I've done it a few times and it gets a great reaction.

I've wondered the same thing.
Looks really cool.

BUT, as far as I know, the beginning of the actual effect is cut out. I think the card was chosen before hand (through a different method), but we only see the part where they name their card again, making it seem as if they literally chose it off the top of their head, which you will often get on TV. I'm not sure if that makes sense, it's just I can't reveal too much.

The closest thing I could get to this is 'Finger Flicker' by Pit Hartling found in his book 'Card Fictions'.
