Run Along to Tescos

Postby SamGurney » Apr 24th, '10, 21:16

Because I have a bad habit of burning out card very quickly and they soon become clumpy and horrible I practice with cheap plastic decks, which adds to the sense that me using nice cards in my performances is a treat for me as well as them. Anyway, the normal place I pick them up ran out ( :? ) and I found myself having to take a walk up to the further away Tesco. They had some kiddies playing cards, which didn't look too bad: I got them at the till and the cashier said '25p please'- 'pardon?'.. indeed, 25p. Oh dear, what have I bought? I was thinking- but, the second I opened them, I turned around immediatley and bought 5 more decks and legged it, in case they had made a mistake. The only reason I didn't get more was because I would have felt greedy.
Honestly, I have bought MUCH worse decks at 10 times the price- and I actually mean that litterally. They are not the usual corny deisgn or horrid primary colour and nor are they are not flimsy or thicker than credit cards- they actually don't feel plasticy at all. They are double indexed and fan and spread niceley- they do not clump and they have not started to yet. Honestle, VERY good value for money and very nice quality. I would happily pay 15 times the price for them- so at 25p I feel like a thief: I have no idea if anybody elses Tescos are doing these, but it's worth a look.

Sounds interesting, at the rate im going with my springs they could come in handy.

However i have found that Bicycle standards are fantastic, i know £2 may be a lot to fork out over and over, but ive had one deck of bikes and have used it consistently, for hours a day of springing, flourishing and tricks, and as long as i flex them the other way every now and then they have lasted perfectly. And considering im a beginner, so i am constantly dropping and bending them, they have held out really well.

But i agree with you, for 25p thats a bargain, i will have to check this out.

Cheers.

people tell me that their cards last them ages- but I think cards just hate me: I have definatley on several occasions turned a brand new set of bikes into quite clumpy, unfannable things. But it means when I am performing with a lovely deck, I treat it carefully, because my fingers are saying 'isn't this nice!' and the slights are easier.

If you use your cards outside, or in a pub, they will become rubbish much quicker. If you just practice in front of your TV at home, they should last a fair bit longer.

Any chance of getting a picture uploaded to tinypic.com so we can see what these cards look like?

To be honest i think i just tolerate a bit of the clumpyness, i dont do many fans apart from the carnahan (only one i can do well :) ) mostly springs and flourishes.

I will try and find a way of getting a picture on here. Just to clarify they are not the best cards on the planet as it might have came across in my euphoria- but honestly? For 25 pennies I cannot fault them at all. Also, like some plastic coated cards- they don't dog ear when you perfect faro them which is nice.
