I remember being a film student.

That was a fun four years of thinking I knew where I was going in life.

Thank goodness I came to my senses and took up a sensible trade as a magician!!

i was going to study film at one point - i stumbled through my film studies gcse, and started my A level at college, walked out of it after two months cos of the amount of sheer poncery and my tutor not liking my review of Psycho...where i likened it to an episode of Scooby Doo...

bad man does bad things wearing a disguise...cop at the end thanks the youngsters and says "he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasnt for you (pesky) kids..."

Just seeing a couple of movies mentioned here put me in mind of a discussion that I've had with some friends over the years...

We've all had the discussions about our favourite 'movie twists' but a far more interesting conversation is what you think the most 'downbeat' ending to a movie is.

Usually moviemakers like you to leave the theatre feeling slightly uplifted but, every so often, they'll leave you feeling totally empty - I love it!!

So - here we go my 2 choices would be:

The Vanishing - How far would you go to find out the fate of your loved ones? (The Dutch original - not the US remake.. can't believe the same director made both!)
The Mist - Probably the most gut wrenching ending of any movie in history. Made the rest of the film almost bearable!

Any others?

Obviously we need to be careful not to spoil movies for people by telling them the end, so we need to be careful here.

The Road - Vego Mortisson plays a father with his son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. It has quite a sad and open end that leaves you thinking "Oh.. it's finished?!". Well worth a watch.

Quite right - a sense of the feeling at the end of the movie is more than enough!!! :)

Another movie I watched the other day that wasn't the greatest movie ever, but the mentalists would like it, as well as John Malkovich fans. I thought it was good and kind of funny in parts: The Great Buck Howard.

Speaking of John Malkovich, anyone see: Being John Malkovich?

What a bizarre idea for a movie but what a great movie. Go see it if you haven't.
