Paul Gordon's Card Capers, The Vitners Parrot, Worthing, West Sussex
Price £30
9.30 am - 5pm
All i can say is what a brilliant day, Tucked away in Worthing Town Center, in a lovely pub, 30 card enthusiasts being taught the real tricks of the trade from one of the UK's best card men, Paul Gordon.
The day kicked off with some in depth explanations of some of Pauls know work, and lesser known effects.
It was nice to see that Paul had some complete beginners involved as well as some more experienced magicians as his teaching style made everyone feel at ease. I think i can say it was one of the only times i didn't feel afraid to ask questions about an effect or if i couldn't quite understand an effect, which i feel is exactly how Paul likes to do his lectures and workshops etc... informal, with lots of magic and lots of laughter and fun!
Just before we went to a break and a quick ciggie, Paul treated us to a demonstration of what he used to do... Sing in a Big Band, and he has a real powerful voice, and it was a nice way to draw the first few hours to a close.
The second half had more effects demonstrated, as well as having Paul share some of his brilliant stories with the Group, some of his brilliant packet tricks demonstrated (and even Corner of Piccadilly was explained in Detail) and some requests were taught also and we had a chance to get down to some of the nitty gritty bits of business about performance style, what magic means to us and Paul and where we can go with our magic.
All in all the day was superb, everyone really seemed to have gotten a lot from the day, it has helped me make up my mind to turn Professional and from speaking to some of the 'guys' afterward, it has helped them and given them the drive and desire to push their magic further.
I definitely recommend Paul's Card Capers Day of Magic to anyone interested in Card Magic, Paul's Work... well just about anyone with an interest in how to really make magic work for them.
Bring on 2011!
