any notes same size as uk currency??

Postby naychandler1 » Feb 5th, '10, 23:25

hi there, just wondering what other currency bills out there are the same size as uk currency , as in notes either £5, £10, £20, its just for the effect 'hand out 500'

just thinking if i could turn euros into uk currency or similar, otherwise i will have to resort to changing paper into money.

thanks.

Just an uneducated guess, but give it 20 years and that will be worth a fortune :P

The Dutch use Euro's so if they don;t match up in size you'll need to look out of the EU.

I use a 50 Etheopean dollar bill for a note change with a £10. They're the same size and a similar colour.

There are plenty of antique shops that deal in foreign notes - you just need to search them out.

So you think I should go for the dong? (Definitely no bingo!). Like this...

According to wikipedia...

50 Vietnamese dong = 0.00173043645 British pounds

Bargain! Looks good for "Extreme Burn" into £10 notes

Just a quick point.
It shouldn't be difficult to find a suitable note as there's probably no need to get an exact size match.

If you find a foreign banknote without anything too important right at the edge (better still if there's a white border) and sized slightly larger than the nearest British banknote, it should be trivial to trim it down to perfectly match the size.

Scissors if you're good, craft knives, guillotines, rotary trimmers and the like would probably be a touch better though. Just be careful that when cutting the foil strip (if there is one) you don't end up with pulls or rips.

Oh, and there's always a chance you'll be able to find reasonably accurate* dimensions for various banknotes on Wikipedia.

Have fun.

* Accuracy there will depend on the care taken by the respective article authors.

Guernsey and Jersey both have the same currency as the uk - the notes are the same value and size but are issued by the states of the respective islands rather than the UK. Their design and coluor is different however, so this may be useful - Guernsey money is brighter and you'd be amazed how many people have never heard of the place! Both islands also have £1 notes, which are green and look a bit like american dollars and about the size of a £5 note - exchanging an audience member's £5 for a Guernsey £1 and using the excuse of a steep exchange rate or similar...!

Hope this helps.

Was in London over the weekend & popped into a little shop I knew existed from when I lived there off St Martin's Lane.

I walked in & said, "I have an odd request. Do you have a bunch of notes which are the same dimensions as a UK £10 note?"

Her reply?

"Are you a magician?"

It's quite a common request apparently. I bought 10 different currency notes for £5 each the same dimensions give or take a mm (trimable) as a UK tenner.
