The photograph in question has always freaked me out slightly. I'm not entirely sure that picture helps things

It's the old test card from the BBC... Alot of us old British fuddie-duddies grew up with it and the constant beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound that accompanied it's appearance.

In the olden days when TV sets were clockwork and life was black & white, I remember watching the test screen while waiting for the BBC to spring to life at 9.30am during the summer holidays.

Ah, yes. Holiday TV:

The White Horses - Horses that ran around in the Camargue and somehow solved crime.
The flashing Blade - Dandies in Revolutionary France who rode around and somehow solved crime.
The Whirlybirds - Helicopter pilots who flew about and somehow solved crime.
Skippy - A kangaroo that hopped about the bush and somehow solved crime.
the Aeronauts - French Mirage pilots in Algeria who flew about and somehow solved crime.

God, it was dull...

I actually loved Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, King of the Rocketmen etc. And I thought Tintin was great - pity each episode was about 35 seconds long. I remember one summer holidays they had Star Trek on each morning (original series obviously) - fantastic!
