I have to say that Downtown Stevenage at chucking-out time on a Saturday night would *not* be my choice for an evening stroll either!

No disrespect to Stevenagians (?) - my in-laws live there.... but the pub opposite the theatre had a, shall we say, certain quality of clientele....

I am reliably informed that the local constabulary had to visit said pub (in force) during the second act of Derren's show....

I heartily recommend it... Keep nagging your folks! ;)

Getting back to the topic, I saw the show on Friday and it was superb even though in one routine one of the specs didn't listen properly and didn't do what he was supposed to do! The glass bit in the second half was perhaps a little over long and didn't do much for me but that's only a minor gripe. There's no point in trying to explain the individual effects as they were all pure DB items, heavily influenced by Anthony Owen and the local stationery store!

As with last year, the second half is not for kiddiwinks and you are warned that youngsters are allowed back only on the understanding that it's done on your own responsibility and it's not just ballyhoo and or hype either!

The whole show is neatly wrapped up and there are 2 'kicker endings' which just left the audience gobsmacked when they realised what had been happening all night. Nuff Sed.

(I have already written to Santa and asked for tickets to the 2006 show - assuming there is one. It pays to get in early!)

I know, I know! Suffice to say that there were well deserved standing ovations at the end - and again at the end and I felt I would have happily paid twice the price to get in. Since I'm a devout tightwad, that's quite a commendation!

I agree, the grand finale just topped off the evening. It was totally unexpected and completely astonishing when you realised what had happened!

By the way, Mandrake, I bet that the one the spectators got wrong was the one with the black and white balls. You really needed to listen up to get everything.

the one the spectators got wrong
was actually the one with the 6 coloured envelopes under the white cardboard cover. The one guy didn't do with his envelope what he'd been told to do with it!

Damn, damn, damn!

Now I have to go!

Was there a run in London? If so, where?

The last I heard, the London run had been cancelled for operational reasons but the latest list of venues is on Derren's website and there's a link to it from other postings on TM as well as the Channel 4 website's Derren section.

Basically you'll be waiting for cancelations as most seats sold out very quickly when first announced. In Birmingham there were about 30 guys hanging around in the foyer waiting to see if anyone didn't turn up so they could buy those seats!

According to MagicWeek:
Derren Brown's Something Wicked This Way Comes comes to the Cambridge Theatre in the heart of London's West End for a limited run at the end of May. Billed as a "powerful and darkly disturbing two-hour fusion of magic, suggestion, psychology and misdirection" this is the show that is currently on tour across the UK. Directed by Andy Nyman, designed by Will Bowen, with lighting by Nick Richings. The show is presented by Michael Vine, Andrew O'Connor and David Walker for Objective Productions. 31st May - 18th June. Cambridge Theatre, Earlham Street, London WC2H 9HU. "Derren's a sell-out success - but he'll be back"
