Postby andycoates » Feb 26th, '07, 10:02

Hi, been along time since i posted on this board, feels homely to be back!

MODS: please move this to a different section if its out of place here.

Im interested in buying "The Magic of Alan Wakeling" but have came accross 2 diffrent versions.

this one: http://www.qualitymagicbooks.com/?nd=full&key=1794

and the more recent one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magic-Alan-Wake ... 86718072/1

obviously apart from the physical diferences, does anyone know if the content is any different between these books?

all the best

Andy

If you're still wondering....The content is the same but as far as I am aware the earlier version is unavailable as it was a relatively limited run back in the early 90's. As per most of Steinmeyers books it is definately worth a read especially if you are interested in the history of stage illusions. Wakeling was a fantastic inventor and most of his ideas are still relevant and in use today.

Only just seen this post--I was reading the Wakeling Book this morning, looking up a fan production, then, clicked onto Google for informatioin about it and ,lo & behold--Talk Magic!

The Amazon version, with a picture of AW on the cover is the 2006 reprint.
The Quality Magic Book version is the original 1st. hardback edition.published in 1993.This has no dust cover, just a plain dark green cover with the title & a drawing of AW in gold.
AS far as I remember the contents of both are the same.

Wonderful professional material written in Jim Steinmeyer's equally wonderful, lucid style.

And Ed:
It contains more than just illusions:
There's AW's:
Billiard Balls
Night Club Specialities.
The Liquid Sand Routine.
Complete Fan Act.
3 Mental items
Magical Fishing including The Goldfish in The Light Bulb
The AW Egg Bag
The Egg on Fan plus the original hip steal.
The Complete Bar Act
Numerology:A Close Up Act & Close Up Specialities.
Escape stuff.
The Wakeling Sawing
His working for Dante in a tent show--1949
Only then do we get 20 Illusions.
345 pages of Pure Magic
BUT
Why oh why is it on sale to the Public!!!!!!!??????????????
