Long Shows for Children

Postby Stephen Ward » Apr 26th, '05, 20:22

I have just accepted a 3 hour Booking for a chldren's party! i have suggested that the magic show should be broken up with some games and a few breaks inbetween. I don't know if young children will sit for 3 hours and watch a show. What do you guys think :? I thought about doing pass the parcel and maybe playing some music as well etc.

To be honest, I doubt you'd get adults to stay attentive for 3 hours let alone children so your suggestion of breaking things up into segments is a good one. Assuming it's practical and the organisers/bookers agree, a Treasure Hunt will keep the little darlings occupied for at least half an hour and you only need to have one main prize plus a bag of sweeties for all the others to dip into for consolation prizes.

Some party games will take up possibly a further 3/4 hour so you can put two or three performance sessions in between them as you see fit. Whichever way it turns out, best of luck!

Yep, that is what i thought. I have a Poundland near so i can get some cheap prizes. The fee more than covers the expenses. The reason the party is long is that the child is crazy about magic, lucky i have lots of routines!

I got the impression that the booker wants me to table hop, as they said "can i do some tricks while the children are having their birthday tea" So i will take it slow for that section and that should make it work.

pop into your local early learning center shop and pick up a cd of kids dance and action songs then break your magic into half hour sessions with games and dance in between, have prizes for the most silly dance, most monsterose, most energetic, best interpretation of the song etc.

hehe...pass the parcel would be fun, except they think theyre passing around a parcel containing something...except when they open it, it has vanished  ...yes lame i know but im sure theyd like it...hehe grand prize could be that they get to keep the "full" parcel...

also...i did a short lil routine in a school classroom with kids once and i didnt know how i wanted to open up and start the routine...so i actually started off by explaining that i needed to warm up my physcic powers before i started, and did that my mentally figuring out the kids names...ofcourse before the show started i simply asked the teachers wut the name of some of the kids were and then simply revealed this by explaining that i knew there was a "john" in the room..and then id lead myself to him somehow...wow...they got such a kick outa the simplest effect..
