Guess who's just had a little idea of their's published in Kenton Knepper's Mind Reading 11? I always get a bit too excited when my ideas make it into print and this one Kenton's written up really nicely. :D

 It was more general advice than anything. If someone wants content to sell on, you should get paid. There has to come a point when even the kudos of an association with Kenton, nice bloke that he is, starts to wear thin.

I think there's definitely something to be said for providing some content for free at the start, just to help establish your reputation. But when you start getting repeat 'business' you know your contributions have value (at least to the person who is taking it).

And at that stage it makes sense to receive payment. If they don't pay they either don't rate the material (in which case they are ripping off the customers to whom they are selling it) or they are ripping *you* off.

Anyway, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I really just want to encourage Lady of Mystery and to suggest she seeks some form of payment in the future. And I am *assuming* she's not been paid, but that could well be wrong!

The trouble is that once you set a precedent by not accepting payment in the beginning you will have a devil of a job trying to get payment from the same person in the future. Human nature I am afraid.

Thanks everyone :D

No I haven't been paid for anything but to be honest I really don't mind that. I'm not doing this for money, I'm doing it for the enjoyment of it and the knowledge that people getting something from my work. I think that what I've got back from him is worth so much more than the few little routines that I've given him. I know that he's mentioned my book to a few people and the little surge in sales that I got after Mind Reading 10 came out, I'm pretty sure is down to him. He's constantly and freely giving me advice, feedback and encouragement and most importantly to me, has become a friend.

I'm only a little fish trying to get established in the big magic pond and for me, the support, exposure and opportunity that Kenton's given me for free is going a long way to achieve that.

Congratultaions - and I mean big congratulations - that is awesome.

As for not getting paid, I would say it is worth it for the kudos, but more importantly, if you are credited then getting your name out there has to be worth a lot.

Again, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS

Well done. Shame that Kenton felt he had to go withdraw his products from magic shops, but one day I'll get round to ordering his new material!
