I think your talking about the Krampus. Who incidentally is what the image of satan is now based off (Red skin, goatee, goats legs and horns). As far as I remember The Krampus was Germanic in origin, and would usually whip naughty people with a switch and also carried bad children off in a basket (either to eat or toss them into hell, stories vary). While Black Peter came from the netherlands, he didn't eat or punish children he usually just helped St.Nick hand out presents.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

One of the Robert Rankin books (I don't remember which now, but it's a good one with Hugo Rune in it) has Father Christmas as the evil king of the fairies.
