Coin and Bottle by Rune Klan

Postby Michael Kras » Jul 1st, '10, 05:25

Hey everyone!

Here's my routine for the wonderful Rune Klan effect Coin and Bottle, first published in Magic Magazine and now featured in his book Rune's World. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

very good well explained and sleights done well and most importantly it was lit well so we could see what was going on, full marks.

just one thing to watch out for a few times one hand dropped from veiw a little bit unaturaly, I think it was noticably becuase you were a bit to far away from the table. :?:

oh and the very fist bit, don't use both hands it looks like your covering some thing up, its not there so don't draw attention to it.

Mike, you are clearly a very capable magician, and mechanically it's all very good, I just think it all lacked personality. Personally I think any trick that starts "Let me tell you a story about another magician" just serves to completely separate the performer from anything magical happening.

I'd really like to see you do something that would make me think "That trick screams Michael Kras".

Thank you both for the excellent thoughts... All very valid pieces of advice that I'll be careful of!

Serendipity, I agree that the routining is somewhat disconnecting... The truth is I love the routining and I'm proud of it, but can't convincingly use it to describe myself for another year or two as I'm only 17... I suppose I'll have to work around that somehow!

I take it you've seen this?

I think it's worth noting that his presentation to this crowd is literally "Here is something magical" rather than "Here is a story about something".

Remember, whilst magic tricks often tell stories they don't literally have to BE stories.

Just think outside the box. Can't you just switch to errrm ... Root Beer or soda or something? You don't have to follow the patter to the last letter. Good luck!
