Why don't you tell us why you like street better, and from what perspective?

Stage tricks are good but I think street tricks are better beacuse they take almost no set up, can be used instantly, and the effects are usally very good....

I find that a lot of street magic is repetative, especially cards whereas there is something magical about sitting around a stage and seeing a professional show.

DOn't get me wrong - I do also like street magic but I think that there's more entertainment from the stage.

What style of Street Magic are you refering to here, just to clarify?

Hit and Run (David Blaine) Style

or

Traditional Pitch (Gazzo) Style

I've never watched a professional magic show - the best I've seen is some street card magic several years ago ...

Good point, well made. Personally I actually love watching Stage Shows because, as a close up magician, I have no real knowledge of how they're done and it makes it more fun. It's the same reason I love watching Mentalists perform because it simply astounds me.

Having said a good close up magician can be just as entertaining if not more so and that's why I love performing close up magic as there is alot more variation and it's also alot more intimate, therefore the potential for wonder and amazement is so much stronger, but that's another story. I also love close up magic for the purely selfish reason that there is so much skill involved. I'm not saying that there isn't skill involved in stage magic because there is, but I find that sleight of hand is really satisfying to practise and perfect, from a purely personal view point.

However, if I have to pick between Street and Stage (assuming that "Street" refers to the Hit and Run Style) I'd have to say that I will always favour a good stage show over a thity second card trick.

But if by Street Magic your are refering to a Traditional Pitch where a crowd is gathered and a show performed then I have nothing but the upmost respect for the magicians who perform this style of magic as there is so much skill involved; aspects of close up sleight of hand and larger stage show performance aswell as many considerations which have no real relevance to either of the aformentioned areas of magic. It really is a truely skillful performance art.

All the best,

Then what catogory would you put the table to table performer in? I think he is a bit in between both of these!

He might have the misfortune to meet a heckler on every table where as the stage performer might only have to deal with one or two! :)

That said and done, I do enjoy watching a good stage performance but I practice walk round table to table magic and try to make a modest living at it at the same time as I enjoy performing this type of magic enormously!

I personally think that you can't beat seeing the look of awe on the audiences faces when you perform close-up, I get an massive buzz from it! :)

As a surprise Christmas present, I bought my 5 year old nephew a 5000 watt light bulb as used in lighthouses. He wasn't too impressed at first but when I plugged it in and switched it on, (all together now) you should have seen his little face light up..... (Sorry, very, very sorry)

personally i perfer stage all the way! both watching and performing for multipul reasons
1) perfoming it if you make a mistake then its easier to cover!
2) theres a defanate group watrching!
3) safety you got a big gap between you and the audiance!

as for watching i prefer it as there is normally more exposive events and more ott effects!!
but i like street for the spontiniality

all in all stage!

PCWIZME thats me!!
