Hi everyone,

I have been told by other Magi's that there are easier ways to achieve this effect but by showing my hand is empty i believe the effect is stronger.

From the structure of your post it sounds as though you have been told by people that if you were to not show your hand empty, it would be stronger, and that you disagree with them. Is this right?

I say that indeed showing the hand empty is a touch I will always add in, and it helps to actually mask one of the essential moves that can often tip the method to people paying attention.

no, i had one of the chaps from IM say to me "why go to that bother when you can just palm a card on?"

I was just trying to show how beautiful the move can be when performed smoothly.

I dont see how its more bother the way shown.

i personally feel you took a little too long with the change happening, too much "fiddlying" but good on you for showing it and for practicing...

The change you're on about at 1.11 is the Shapeshifter Colour Change. I personally like the slippers.

Indeed, I responded in PM but shall put the info here as well.

The Shapeshifter is published in DeSouza's Deceptions, and is without doubt my favourite colour change ever.

You performed this effect VERY smoothly and would be astounding to the inexperienced observer. WELL DONE!

Kobain, I too think showing the hand empty is almost necessary. However, and this could be due to my style, I would show the hand empty much more subtly. It would be a gesture, perhaps a shrug with my palm up, or I may fan (with a spring fan) then close up the fan turn the top card over then gesture to the card with my right hand, (palm up) just a simple gesture and then proceed.

For me I am then not challenging my audience as in, see my hands empty now the card has changed. Of course, (again and this is for me and my style) I would never perform just a change or a vanish, it would be in a routine, a story the vanish/change becomes a means to an end and in that the hand would be seen empty several times.

I am not an in-your-face performer. So whatever works for is how you should proceed. Oh and your technique is great.
