How do you use YOUR s***i?

Postby Eshly » Jul 21st, '10, 17:34

The title says it all.

I'm currantly working on a s***i effect where a persons two digit number appears on the back of a buisness card which is inside a steel case (for the cards) in my jacket pocket. The best thing is, the spectator opens up the steel case.

What do you use your s***i for?

On the rare time I use one, I pretty much use it for the same thing you describe. A quick prediction on the back of a business card.

My difference is as follows. (I don't carry busness cards anymore, so I did with our marketing director). I managed to get one of her business cards on the sly, then one day I walked into her office and showed her a blank card, waved my hand over it and all her information appeared and remarkably looked exactly like her business card. I handed it over to her and then said, 'oh wait, lets try something else' I took the card back and went into pen thru anything, showing her both sides of the card, (which proved there was nothing on the back and the pen did indeed go through). I removed the pen from the card let her examine the pen. Then I had her hold her hand face up and placed the card face up on her palm and had her place her other hand over the first so the card was sandwhiched between her palms.

I then asked her to concentrate on her favourite colour, and if she concentrates hard enough that colour will appear on the back of the card.

Sure enough I was right and she still talks about it.

Thinking about it now I really didn't need a swami to pull off that particular effect but I did. But a quick and dirty prediction on the back of a business card is my main use.

A few routines, but never as the main prediction, usually as an opener or introductory thing...

Yes I am hoping to use this as an opener. Currantly the simplest version I have is:

"Picture a square and then imagine that theres a number inside it, if you were to guess what number do you think it would be."

I'm suprised that people are only using a swami for simple, throw away, back of business card predictions. They can be much more useful than just that, I've got whole routines that are based on a swami perdiction. Don't sell them short, they're very useful little devices.

true, they can be powerfull devices, capable of creating fiendish things.

But to a layman, think of a number.. its written on my business card is a very strong effect.
Just as long as your routine is good.

When Blaine did this, he used the reverse ruse, in that he made the spectator name the number, he wrote on a card.

Spackmans voodo ... is a good application .

On the back of two cards, you draw stick men. you hand one card and a red pencil to your spectator, and you ask them to "cut" their man, by drawing an x somewhere on the figure.
you stand back to back, so you cant see their drawing, and Mark your card.

when you turn around, you show that the mark on your card, is in exactly the same place as his.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

As per usual, Dale is spot on! We are very often guilty of dismissing 'simple' tricks because they seem rather quaint or hackneyed to us. It is very diificult for us to recall what it was like the first time we ever saw ACR or a simple mentalism routine.

On another thread, a poster mentioned their surprise everytime a spectator 'freaks out' at one of their most simple tricks, sometimes moreso than their more elaborate routines.

As Albert Einstein said "Make everything as simple as possible, but not any simpler."

By the way guys, you may want to go to your Something Wicked This Way Comes DVD and go into the bonus section. There is a whole 10 minute routine, including a subliminal film, which uses a s****i to brilliant effect.
