Odd request

Postby russpie » Jul 22nd, '10, 13:21

Just taken a phone call from a place I have worked many times before. It's a gig at a European awards event in 5 days time, the theme is 'British'. They'll have stilt walkers etc & the last thing she said was,

"Do you have a Union Jack waistcoat?"

"Erm no. I'll see what I can do."

I've just ordered a union flag t-shirt to wear under my jacket & wrist band thing to stick my sharpie in. Any other ideas? I thought Union flag cards but the quality is terrible, union flag tea towel maybe to use in card forces but i'd rather not stray too far away from my usual stuff especially as I'm moving flat, turning 30 & have a job interview on monday morning so I have no time to prep.

My other question is what odd requests have you had from bookers?

Colour change waistcoat changing from stripes to Union Jack. Bit of an expense for one gig though.

You just buy a normal waistcoat

Yeah I thought about the colour change but I wouldn't really wear it again.

I can't bring myself to actually wear a waistcoat of any description when I'm working. It doesn't suit me & I'm a bit of a snob ;-)

The t-shirt under jacket & wrist/sweat band will have to do.

A snob that won't wear a waistcoat but will wear a t-shirt under a jacket?

What i would do is....get a red waistcoat, a white shirt, and a blue tie.
add union jack cufflinks,( available all over the place) and presto... you are the union jack.

I normally wear a suit, black shirt & black shoes. I'm not one of your average t-shirt under jacket wearers. I adhere to the 'rule' of looking smart at events wearing what the guests will be wearing even a little smarter. To be honest a t-shirt under jacket makes me shivver as much as a brightly coloured waistcoat or card tie.

When she said, "we want everyone to look British" I nearly offered to turn up looking 16, wearing a baseball cap, carrying a cig & pushing a pram.

If you don't like the idea of Union Jack wastecoats could you perhaps go with a suit, bowler hat and black umberella?

Nice idea.

As a side note, i've just seen Nick Griffin has been turned away from a party at Buck House, I bet he's got a Union flag waistcoat going spare.
