Is this the most terrible product ever?!

Postby Alec Burns » Jul 25th, '10, 22:37

Shufton's Portal by Steve Shufton.

First off im really sorry but im unable to provide a link to this product.

http://www.magicnevin.com/New_Magic.asp
click on this link tho and perform a search and watch the video. Please watch the whole video!!

This product is just shy of £50 and after watching the video im amazed that someone could ask for so much money for such a basic gimmick.

Im not sure if im being too harsh here but to me its very obvious how the effect is being performed and to that end, £50 is about £47 too much in my opinion!!

Your thoughts please guys, maybe im missing the big point here!!?

well...maybe you're paying for the routines, the thinking, the handling...the hard work that went into all of that?

plus, steve is a member here, so maybe he'll pop along...

W. T. F.

That's shocking. Surely you'd be embarrassed to perform that to even small children?

List Price: £49.99
Price: £48.99

And look, they've given us a whole £1 off! Is there any point in that discount?

Review and earlier discussion.

It does not seem like something one would perform for children, but that's not a criticism of mine.

The pair of you need to close your mouths before you make yourselves look any more stupid.
If you don't like the demo, don't buy it.

If you have bought the product and feel you were hard done by, by all means give us a terrible review.
As it stands, you can only go on what you see...you don't know how it works, you've only theorised.
David Regal endorses it and he is for sure a better magician than the pair of you.

Well i did ask if i was missing the point and i did ask for your thoughts although i was hoping for something more constructive!

Am i missing the point? If so feel free to point that out to me but i can only presume from your comment that you are connected to the product? In which case, and as i asked in the original post, fill me in on what im not seeing.

Im looking to spend around £100 on a product at the moment and came across the item, watched the video and was shocked at the asking price!
Ive no doubt that many people on here are a better magician than me. Im a hobbiest and have only performed a handful of gigs but that doesnt mean that my opinion should be discounted!

As to your comment that i have made myself look stupid, may i ask how?

You are obviously very protective about this product so i am sorry if i offended you but i still stand by my first post, it LOOKS way overpriced and maybe im missing the point.

Bloody good point actually, consider it well and truly taken. Thank you.

(And no, that wasn't sarcasm, it's genuine!)

I hope nobody minds if I don't delete my initial post here. For a start I believe that if you've said or done something rash and/or plain dumb (as is definitely the case here) then you can at least man-up and admit it. Besides, perhaps future readers of this thread will learn my lesson the easy way!

From reading the other review it's obvious a great deal of work went into this device but on the basis of that video it does seem a touch overpriced but as Lenoir rightly pointed out that is only theory as I don't know the device properly. I'd say definitely one for the kid's entertainer though surely? Not that that's a bad thing either as already mentioned.

I'll stand by my comment about the £1 discount though, that still seems a touch frivolous! That said MagicNevin seem to be a pretty good dealer so they obviously know what they're doing.

I have another link but its a bit of a spoiler, it does go into better depth regarding the dvd teaching which is primnarily what your paying for and lets face it you'd pay this kind of money for a decent set of ballanced cups and balls or a set of copper silver keys, which I did. :D

This item reminds me of Jerry Andrus Zone Zero.
I would imagine that with patter it could play well.
Zone Zero was 100% sleights, this is clearly gaffed. And Zone Zero probably cost about the same.

I would have to see it live to make a full decision on it though.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
