First charity gig!

Postby philipsw » Jul 24th, '10, 20:59

Sorry - needed to unload to TM chums whilst I'm still on the adrenalin high!

Just come back from my first charity gig. A friend and I were performing some walkaround magic before a meal, and then doing the tables between starter and main course. Really pleased with how it went!

Learnt lots, too, as you would expect. I was surprised by how few different tricks I actually performed.

Beforehand, I mainly did 'Corner of Picadilly' and 'On the Mark' with an occasional other trick. One amusing thing about 'On the Mark' was that if I had just walked around with an envelope containing the QH I would have been right 75% of all my performances!

At the tables I started with the Swadling Matchboxes - brilliant reactions - and then did Chronologue. The only other exception was at the organiser's table where I did Dobson's TNT Reloaded.

Really encouraged by the evening. Organiser seemed pleased. One person asked for my card :-)

These types of gigs are invaluable, so I am glad it went well for you! Sounds like you thought about your material too so well done.

When I am performing at these types of occasions I always leave a little bundle of business cards on the table upon the conclusion of my set. I am just saying this because you mentioned one person asked for your card, when the reality is probably many more were impressed and would consider booking you in the future. Most people don't think to ask for a card amidst the drinking, eating and chat, so leaving a some cards on the table is definitely a good move.
