I divide the audience in two, and have them cheer for Mike or Susan. And who said anything about cards? You're card mad, you are!

Timing is everything, isn't it?

I think remaining hands-off throughout is a good idea, which means it's down to one of the participants. Susan will know the prediction. Her reaction should occur once the reult of the game is known (and she realises it matches the prediction). Mike's reaction will be when he sees or hears the prediction.

I know that, theoretically, you could milk three reactions from this. Susan's on hearing the result, Mike's on seeing the prediction and then the audience's one when Mike reads it out. However, my gut instinct tells me this is just spinning out the revelation too much, rather than multiple moments of amazement.

On the other hand, Susan has read the prediction once and is less likely to stumble over it.

I think this is one that will only become clear after multiple performances!

My gut reaction is for you to read it. You are the performer, you can read the audience and you can time it properly, you can add lib if you are loosing your audience you can gain back control at this point, what if Mike is not very animated or enthusiatic, what if Mike can't read? (it has happened).

Best however is to try each scenario and see what works best over time. I would shy away from Susan, as she has already read it and knows anyhow.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. I've various strategies and approaches now, and it's been an interesting discussion.

I shall be trying this out with small audiences when I get the chance; will let you know how it plays out.

Could the prediction be formed from something like... oh I don't know, that days copy of The Daily Mail for example? You could then have a giant copy unfurl behind you, Susan and Mike, even suggesting people check their copies of The Mail when they get home.

Or something
