A dusty PK ring...help?

Postby magicj » Jul 23rd, '10, 16:33

Hiya Chaps,

I bought a PK ring about a year and half ago and have really only used it for Coin thru bottle and watch stopping, i dont like it for watch stopping, it seems to obvious and also the haunted deck i struggle with as it the ring doesnt seem very 'strong' (those who have it know what i mean)

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do with this band of metal sat in my cupboard not doing an awful lot?

Books, dvds, suggestions?

If not see it in the trading section in a few weeks, lol

thanks

James

WOW!

I can't believe its got two 'wows'! And believe me Mattius88, I have many aesthetic prototypes in my workshop that look a little more phallic and a little less menacing. You wouldn't believe how hard it was to make something as simple as a stake look so menacing and yet serve its intended purpose

But thanks chaps for that, pleased you like the look of it, and magicj, I'm concerned you liked the warning? Only kidding.

Back on topic though Magicj, and I can only talk through my own experience, is that when I use a natural looking prop, for the first few weeks, I will use it only for its natural purpose...eg a gimmicked wallet...use it as a wallet...or a PK ring...use it as a ring...or a Billet Pencil...use it as a pencil and keep it on your desk. It helps in many ways, but the two main ones are that it accustoms you to handling the item in question naturally, and two, it reduces your mindset on it being gaffed...which in turn telegraphs to any spectator that there is something a little 'different' about the item.

Just try it...and then try things with chronological devices etc....you'll notice a big difference in your performance and importantly, your audiences reactions.

Hi magicj,

I have a little video made up of an effect you can use.

The video doesnt demonstrate the effect very well (i had to use my wrong hand for the angle) but you will get the point.

Ill have to PM you the link as its a secret video on the tube.

If you have any questions about the effecy the fell free to ask :)

You could stop your pulse & the watch at the same time. I seem to remember seeing Zenon do this. It'd take the heat away from the watch at least & give them two things to think about.

Prohibition, bottle cap in bottle is a fab effect. Not sure how much it differs from the coin in bottle you already do though.

I've heard bad things about using magnets to stop watches, can it not permanently damage the watch?

Probably, but so long as its not my watch (Dolce and gabana do a cracking 'time' series) i dont care :-)

im joking, quite possible, but all i can imagine it does is ha=old the hands still but the motor keeps going, cant see it would cause tht much damage?

Ive never used mine for stopping watches just incase it turns into an expensive trick!!

On the same subject tho i read somewhere that strong magnets can actually make digital watches pass time faster.
Anyone know if this is fact??

I'd be really interested to know if this is tru. Thinking about it one of my watches has stopped after practicing the effect on it. :/

I think it can make the watch urrrmmm... "magical" like the ring, which means it is hard to get it going again. "Just excuse me while I pass an alternating current through your watch to start time again" Is not a line I want to say.
