Silks for TT's

Postby The Last Deck on the Left » May 3rd, '05, 11:48

Hi there,

I'm just getting into using TT's and wondered which kind of silks to use for simple vanishes.

I bought a cheap TT from ebay that had a small yellow silk (synthetic) supplied, but it is very small indeed. Could somene let me know a good type to buy and a good supplier?

Also any good sites for TT's? my cheap ebay one is ok (soft tip). I did buy a Vernet one from emagictricks. I specified soft, but it seems quite hard plastic and is very large - so much so it covers my whole thumb - so I'm looking to get a few others to try out the different kinds.

Thanks!!

Diamond-cut silks are good - they look bigger than they really are.
Check them out here.

I've bought silks from Cards4magic, Magicbox and eMagicTricks in the past and they were all good quality items so can recommend any of those sources. Best place for a TT is from a bricks and mortar shop, a convention or other place where you can actually see the items, try them out for the appropriate hardness of the materials, best selection of colour and also a good fit. You might want to try longer or shorter ones depending on how you intend to use them. Assuming you manage all that then buy several at the same time as they don't last all that long and, apart from inevitable wear and tear they can get grubby after a while - especially if you wear black jeans and use the little ticket pocket to store your TT like I do!

Yeah, as in really cheap and nasty and material that doesn't have a single silk thread in it!

Thanks for the tips guys. I think you are right about actually trying on the TT's Mandrake. I'll have a look around for some shops here in the Midlands.

Saxmad - those Diamond Silks look great!

Thanks[/quote]

That's the problem then. Unless you use 100% pure chinese silk silks, there is no way your going o get it to compress. The average t.t should be able to hold an 8" square silk, most will even take a 12".
Your vernet tip, sounds like it is the correct size, and i would urge you to use that, rather than a smaller tip.
