don't know about canada but your local libary should have reference texts sorry books on magic.
also you might try getting mark wilson's complete course in magic which is a great strart book and is the first real magic book i have in my colection ISBN 0-7624-1455-3 $29.95 canadian avalable from most book shops for order hence ISBN number.
ok regards what can and can't be said in open forum lets take an example:-
you have a special set of cards each with a wafer thin chip in them and a coating on them that reacts to radio frequencys from a coil embeded in the special card case that alows you to change the valua of a card to its oposit suit and has a display that tells you what card is placed on the table, ie its a super duper marked deck and camelion card set.
ok the cards would be refered to as gimmicks ie you could say the gimmicked cards make a sleight slightly more difficult (translation there a tad thick).
the card change can be effected by outside influences (translation the chips are effected when someone with a pacemaker gets to close).
knowing the card chosen from outside the room can be problematic (translation some sod set off the microwave).
the box is not examinable (translation the lcd display and card change button would give the game away).
this trick needs setup time (translation hideing the dam ariel in the room is a bugg***).
the point is you can describe a trick in general terms provided you don't actualy reveal the method so you could say you can change the card from across the room but you should not say its a doddle to do the across the room card change just press the button on the trany and it changes the cameleon coat fuc****** great.
you could describe the trick as the ultimate way to read cards even when your not in the room not its a radio transmiter that reads the card electronicly via a four line lcd.
hope this clears it up for you and if i have given away a trick with this hypothetical example then I'm sorry but its bound to have been thought of, just not to practical egh
