It's our old friend Joe Power, bombing at Edinburgh: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-e ... e-10884534

His intellect seems to be coming in on three engines at the best of times.

It's OK. It's also what we're saying.

This kind of bad publicity always seems to happen to the ones without the wit and intelligence (or true ability) to understand that breaking cover and making a dash for fame always ends badly for fake psychics. The real money lies in building a wealthy private client base.

What does interest me is the number of people who are now going to see Joe Power in order to scoff. Part and parcel of how these people operate is to fill an audience with people who are already predisposed to ideas of necromancy, something I suspect Joe will be hard pressed to maintain in the light of the Derren Brown programme and, now, the coverage of his death.

The boyf and I had toyed with the idea of seeing him in Edinburgh, but we realised that although we would pay money for the tickets ironically, Mr Power would not spend it ironically.

If the spectator doesn't engage in the effect,
then the only thing left is the method.

I have the distinct impression that Mr Power had never heard of Derren Brown. I mean to say, what kind of idiot offers out Derren blummin' Brown to to a cold reading?

The most stupid thing he did was to accept a five-minute spot in a gala show, being given to an off-the-street audience who were there for comedy and variety rather than paranormal communication.

He also (I'm told) chose to contact somebody with a message for the one distinguished guests that every performer knew was in the audience. His chosen target wasn't biting, apparently.

Given the time to do his full performance to an audience of people that want to see the type of thing that Joe Power does, I'm sure he'll hold his own alongside any other spirit medium. it's not on my must-see list, but then I'm sure that my shows aren't on his either. ;)

Reviews are now coming in for Mr Powers' actual show.

I post these links not to gloat (I'll be at the mercy of critics for a full fortnight from Monday), but to show how shuteye psychic demonstrations seem to wash with mainstream audiences.

I couldn't read the second review, but I'm sure from the first that I could have done better. Far better. In fact, most of the forum could have landed more hits than Mr "Power", if indeed that is his real name.

I've made a study of mediums for several years now, been to countless shows and demos, and I've just about had enough of them. They are, to a man/woman, rubbish at what they do.

I may become a medium for a year, do it properly, and then reveal that I'm a big fat fake and the whole escapade was just to demonstrate what a pile of you-know-what it all is.

Ted's link works (thanks, Ted!). I liked the title: "There's one dies every minute".

"Magic teaches us how to lie without guilt." --Eugene Burger
"Hi, Robbie!" "May your mischief be spread." --Derren Brown
