Crazy Man's Handcuffs an idea

Postby GeoC » May 2nd, '05, 13:18

Hi
I don’t know if anyone else has tried this but I found out I can do the Crazy Man's Handcuffs with these wrist bands that everyone is wearing these days.

I was sitting at the SAMS convention on Sunday (01/05/05) and my son had two on, I borrowed them and managed it first time.

It is more effective with two the same colour but you can get away with different colours.

Has anyone else tried it?

Hi George, That sounds very interesting....I do CMH all the time and have always thought it was less convincing with thicker bands so how do you make it convincing with these wrist bands as they are mega thick??

With regards to the thickness I try not to pause to long with them after they are sepateated (I also have big fingers)

I think the strong thing is the fact they are borrowed from the spectator

I do do a few elastic band effects with headbands (the linking/unlinkng band effect for one), and that goes down very well. They aren't borrowed (unless there are two people at the table wearing headbands - which has never happened yet).

I did experiement with CMH and other objects and frankly my personal opinion is that elastic bands work that much better. One of the big things about CMH for me is that because the spectator doesn't realise exactly when the bands penetrate, when they appear to penetrate at the end it appears to be so very magical. If there was any hint of the penetration happening earlier then I feel the effect is diminished.

I do applaud you for trying though, and as a one off impromptu effect I would say it could still be worth doing. To be honest I have no idea what these wristbands look like that everyone is wearing though - so please take everything I say with a pinch of salt.

I will say use them for the linking/unlinking band effect though, as the thicker band and different colours would definitely enhance that effect...

I've tried this with hairbands and they work well, there not much different in size to elastic bands and have that little metel bit on them that gives them something else to examine!

Many places. Michal Ammar teaches it in his books, Dan Harlan has released DVDs on the whole thing and Dan Turcott offers a download to teach the routine. All have been reviewed here so do a Search to see the full details.

I think to be honest i would feel uneasy performing this effect with these bands, because you must have to keep them moving a lot more to disguise the penetration...That's my view anyway
