I've just got back from a very nice holiday in France with the family. While we were visiting Blois one day, about to visit chateau, my attention was caught by a load of large pneumatic dragons poking their heads out of the shutters of the building opposite (no - really! - see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKaEzlmExkI ).
Naturally, I wandered over to have a look and what should I discover but the 'Maison de magie' - a museum of sorts dedicated to Robert Houdin the great father of our modern art. You can see more (if your French is good) at
http://www.maisondelamagie.fr/
There was stuff on the history of magic. Optical illusions etc. A short 'informal' stage show, a full 'classical' performance with two magicians and some close up stuff all being done live. And a wonderful collection of artefacts belonging to Robert Houdin himself. It was wonderful to spend some time there, and I would certainly recommend it if you are in the area. Even the wife found it interesting!
